Circle Grill: A Legacy of Flavor

Established in 1946 by the Evans and Wise families, Circle Grill has long been a cherished dining destination in Dallas, offering a warm atmosphere and a menu steeped in tradition. In 1999, the Evans family transitioned ownership to Sam and Kathy Vergos, who continued to nurture the restaurant’s legacy. Recently, the torch has been passed to Rebar Al-Missouri and his business partner, Bjar Amedi, who are committed to preserving the essence of Circle Grill while bringing their unique vision to the establishment.

Rebar Al-Missouri’s journey began in Duhok, Kurdistan, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Salahaddin in 1995. His early career was marked by his role with the Kurdistan Reconstruction Organization (KRO), where he collaborated with the U.S. Army to rebuild vital infrastructure in Northern Iraq, including roads, hospitals, and homes.

In 1996, amid significant political upheaval, Rebar and many fellow Kurds were relocated to the United States. Their first stop was Andersen Air Force Base in Guam, where nearly 7,000 Kurdish citizens underwent an intensive cultural orientation program. During this time, Rebar volunteered as a teacher and translator for the Military Information Support Team, helping fellow refugees acclimate to their new surroundings. In 1997, he and his family settled in Boulder, Colorado, beginning a new chapter in their lives.

Rebar’s dedication to service continued in 2006 when he became a Bilingual/Bicultural Advisor and Recruiter for the U.S. Army in North Carolina, training individuals to support military operations overseas. Throughout this journey, he also built a loving family, marrying and raising three wonderful children—two daughters and a son. After relocating to North Texas, he fulfilled a personal dream by bringing his mother from Kurdistan to live with his family.

Rebar’s path to Circle Grill is a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit and love for community. Initially envisioning a hotel project, he fell in love with Circle Grill after several visits. Captivated by its charm and rich history, he chose to embrace the restaurant rather than pursue his original plan. When Kathy Vergos expressed her desire to retire, Rebar saw an opportunity to honor the legacy of the Evans family while adding his own touch to the beloved establishment.

Under Rebar’s stewardship, Circle Grill continues to offer an extensive breakfast menu featuring classic favorites like omelets and pancakes, alongside unique dishes such as chicken fried steak and eggs. The lunch and dinner menus are equally diverse, showcasing delectable options including chili-cheese enchiladas, fried seafood, comforting meatloaf, and their renowned fried chicken.

As Circle Grill moves forward under new ownership, Rebar Al-Missouri aims to uphold the restaurant’s rich traditions while infusing it with fresh energy, ensuring that it remains a cornerstone of the Dallas community for generations to come.
