Get ready to challenge the boundaries of gravity, ignite creativity, and embark on a journey to earn your Red Bull wiiings because Red Bull Flugtag is officially returning to the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex for the first time since 2013.
On Saturday, September 13, 2025, at the Levy Event Plaza in Las Colinas, teams of fearless flyers will hurl their handmade, human-powered aircrafts off a 22-foot-high ramp and into Lake Carolyn, in what’s been described as one of the most outrageous competitions on Earth.
With over 40,000 spectators expected from across North Texas, this year’s Red Bull Flugtag DFW promises more thrills, spills, and wings-that-shouldn’t-fly than ever before.
“We’re excited to welcome back Red Bull Flugtag to Irving and showcase the creativity and adventurous spirit of our community,” said Irving Mayor Rick Stopfer. “Events like this bring people together and shine a national spotlight on our city.”
As Flugtag translates to “flying day” in German, Red Bull Flugtag has been a global competition series for over 30 years, challenging teams of five to design, build, and pilot homemade flying machines off a ramp and into the water below.
At Red Bull Flugtag, competitors cannot use motors or engines. They instead must rely on pure human power and innovation, where teams are ultimately judged not only on flight distance but also on creativity and showmanship. One lucky team will walk (or fly) away as Flugtag champion, with prizes ranging from an exclusive premiere team outing at a signature Red Bull event; helicopter rides; iFLY Indoor Skydiving experiences, and more.
Beyond the competition, attendees can enjoy an all-ages Fan Zone, where fans can explore interactive challenges and official Red Bull merchandise, not to mention a special drop-in by the Red Bull Air Force skydiving around Lake Carolyn to kick off the festivities.

Applications to complete are now open and available on their website through May 16, 2025. Up to 40 teams will be selected and announced by June 27, 2025 so North Texas teams are encouraged to submit their applications as soon as possible to be considered.
All hopeful aviators must follow Red Bull Flugtag’s official rules, including those listed below:
- Teams of five (one pilot, four crew), all aged 18+
- Pilots must NOT be strapped in or enclosed in their aircraft
- All jumpers must be able to swim 100 yards unaided
- Life jackets and helmets (provided) are mandatory
- No engines, motors, or non-human propulsion allowed
- Maximum craft size: 28 ft wingspan, 20 ft nose-to-tail, total weight (pilot included) under 400 lbs
