Fuzzy’s Taco Shop in Deep Ellum to Close

Another longtime Deep Ellum restaurant has shuttered its doors.

The Fuzzy’s Taco Shop at 2706 Elm Street closed permanently on September 6, with ownership confirming the decision in a statement. The restaurant cited crime in the neighborhood and recent restrictions on business hours as key factors behind the closure.

“Unfortunately, ongoing financial challenges driven by decreased customer traffic in the area — largely due to concerns around crime and limits on operating hours — have made it unsustainable for us to continue,” the owners said.

The closure marks the latest setback for Deep Ellum’s dining scene. In recent months, STIRR closed its neighborhood location in August, and Niwa Japanese BBQ shut down in June. Together, the departures point to the mounting pressures restaurants face in one of Dallas’ most vibrant but complicated entertainment districts.

Despite the exit, the owners expressed gratitude to the community: “We are incredibly grateful to our loyal customers and staff who supported us over the years, and we remain proud to have been part of the Deep Ellum community.”

Fuzzy’s Taco Shop continues to operate two other Dallas restaurants, one on West Mockingbird Lane and another on North Central Expressway, ensuring fans can still find the brand elsewhere in the city.
