Flying Fish, the laid-back seafood joint from restaurateurs Shannon Wynne and Larry Richardson, is reeling in another Plano location — this one at 4032 Preston Road, taking over the former Dickey’s BBQ space. Inspired by the East Texas lakefront seafood shacks of Caddo Lake fame, Flying Fish has become a Southern favorite, with eleven locations across Texas, Arkansas, and Tennessee.
The menu hooks guests with a mix of grilled and fried classics — think catfish, shrimp, oysters, crab, and flaky fish fillets served your way: traditional, snappy, or drenched in garlic butter. You’ll also find Southern staples like po’ boys, grits, jambalaya, and gumbo, alongside ice-cold beer, wine, and margaritas to wash it all down.
Regulars know the daily deals are the real catch: All-You-Can-Eat Catfish Wednesdays ($22.95) and “The Preacher’s Special,” with $1.50 oysters all day every Sunday. Little anglers 12 and under can enjoy their own “Kids Boats” — a choice of burger, catfish, shrimp, chicken strips, or sandwich, each served with fries and hushpuppies ($6.95).
No visit is complete without checking out the restaurant’s famous “Billy Bass Adoption Wall,” where retired singing fish find a forever home. Trade in your own “Take Me to the River” crooner for a free basket of catfish — and a place of honor on the wall. The “Liars Wall” adds to the charm, featuring tall fishing tales from guests across the South.
Flying Fish also has outposts in Addison, Arlington, Fort Worth, Garland, Dallas, and beyond. Doors open daily at 11 a.m. For menus, hours, and more, visit flyingfishinthe.net.
