Two New Mexican Spots Are Coming to Lower Greenville This Summer

Lower Greenville is getting two new Mexican concepts this summer, and they’re coming from the same person: Jon Garay, the SMU grad and Mexico City native who co-founded Chilangos Tacos back in 2019 and has been quietly building one of the more recognizable taco brands in Dallas ever since. Chilangos now has six locations across the city, plus Nashville and Las Vegas. This time, Garay is going a different direction — and doing it on his own terms.

The first concept is Brazamar, going into the former Foxtrot space at 3606 Greenville Avenue. The name combines brasa — Spanish for grilling — with mar, meaning sea. That tells you most of what you need to know about the concept: fire and seafood, Mexican coastal cooking, priced for the neighborhood rather than the expense account. Think tostadas, aguachile, ribeye tacos, and cocktails built to go with all of it. The vibe is meant to be relaxed. Garay has described it as a place where you can get a solid plate of Mexican food and a good drink at a price that doesn’t require a plan.

Right next door, Tacos Richy will operate as a street taco window in the same format as Chilangos — tight menu, fast service, Mexico City technique, not a lot of frills. No official opening date has been announced for Tacos Richy yet, but it’s coming from the same team and is expected to open around the same time as Brazamar. If Chilangos built its reputation on La Costras and birria, Tacos Richy looks to bring that same straightforward approach to the Greenville corridor at even lower price points.

The backstory matters here. Garay and his original co-founder, chef Joel Mendoza, built Chilangos together from a food truck called La Botana starting in 2018. Mendoza had cooked at Pujol in Mexico City — consistently ranked among the 50 best restaurants in the world — and at the Four Seasons in New York before landing in Dallas. That pedigree went into what became a taqueria that lines form for. The two have since gone separate ways, with Mendoza opening his own spot in South Oak Cliff. Garay has kept Chilangos running and expanding, and Brazamar is the next chapter.

No firm opening dates have been confirmed for either spot, but both are expected this summer. Watch @brazamar.dallas on Instagram for updates. Brazamar and Tacos Richy will both be at 3606 Greenville Avenue on Lower Greenville.
