Common Table Hosts Beer vs Wine Dinner

by Steven Doyle

The Common Table, which in its first year has fast become the place where the cool kids hang out to enjoy great craft beer, will be hosting a Beer vs. Wine Dinner Monday, June 6 at 7:00pm.

In speaking with Corey Pond, proprietor of the uptown brew pub he said, “The Beer vs. Wine dinner concept has been done in a number of places around the country, but as far as we know no one has done one at this level in DFW. Most of the wines have beer rated 90 points or higher by Robert Parker and every beer scores 99 or 100 points on http://www.ratebeer.com. The dinner is really to celebrate our first anniversary and something we’ve wanted to do since we opened. We’ve worked closely with breweries, wineries and distributors to get the best possible wine & beer for the dinner. Chef Mike has gone all out on the food too. It should be an amazing night.”

The dinner will be led by The Common Table’s in-house Cicerone, Jeff Fryman, who paired the beers for the evening, and Tim Campbell from Republic National Beverage who holds a Wine & Spirits Education Trust Advanced Certificate (comparable to Sommelier but also trained in spirits as well).

The dinner will be prepared by chef Mike Smith, formerly of 2900 and The Green Room,  will consist of 5-courses. Each course will be paired with both a wine and a beer. Guests will vote of which paired better with each course.

Following the dinner, there will be a keg of 2007 Brooklyn Brewery Monster Barley Wine that will be tapped while the votes are tallied and the results revealed.

This event will be officially announced Friday, so Crave readers have a running start at reservations. We also scored a preview of the night’s menu:
