Couple Lost in Corn Maze

by Steven Doyle

Last Monday while most of the country was happily celebrating Columbus Day a young couple and their 3-month old child entered a corn maze  for their first family on a farm just outside of Boston.

The family entered the maze Monday afternoon and later that evening the family was still wandering the maze, scared, hungry and bitten by mosquitoes so they finally decided to call 911 an hour after the maze had closed for the day.

Here are some of the highlights of the 7-minute 911 call:

Woman (crying): Hi, I just called. I’m still stuck at Connors Farms. I don’t see anybody. I’m really scared. It’s really dark and we’ve got a 3-week old.
911 Dispatch: Your husband is with you?
Woman: Yes. But my baby…
911 Dispatch:A police officer is on the way. Can you put your husband on the phone?
Husband: I see lights over there at the place, but we can’t get there, we’re smack right in the middle of the corn field.
Woman: I don’t know what made us do this, it was daytime when we came in, we thought if we came in someone would come in and find us… We can hear… Oh, my goodness. The mosquitoes are eating us alive, and I never took my daughter out, this is the first time. Never again.
Woman: This is embarrassing.

Within minutes of the call the family was rescued by the K9 unit not realizing they were just feet away from the edge of the maze.

Connors Farm Corn Maze is located in Danvers, Massachusetts runs the annual corn maze, a cow train, pig races and a CSA. The maze continues to operate through October 31st.
