Acme F&B Opening Soon

by Crave Staff

Chefs Colleen O’Hare and Jeana Johnson, founders of Good 2 Go Taco in East Dallas, will partner with bar entrepreneurs Brooke Humphries and Brianna Larson to debut Acme F&B, an upscale restaurant-bar at 4900 McKinney Avenue, slated to open in the spring.

Occupying the space at Monticello that was most recently Bull & Bear and before that, Cretia’s, Acme F&B will feature New American cuisine. The new establishment will signify O’Hare and Johnson’s return to the world of fine-dining where they honed their chops.

From Stephan Pyles to York Street to Hibiscus to Green Room to Toulouse to Kitchen 1924, the two chefs have demonstrated their culinary expertise at most of the major kitchens of Dallas. They used that caliber of technique and ingredients in their creation of a new kind of gourmet taco at Good 2 Go. Johnson and O’Hare will now expand their repertoire with a full menu that runs from small plates to standard entrees. The focus will be seasonal, sustainable, and local when possible.

“We’ll be doing honest, straightforward food — familiar and comfortable but with an unexpected twist that draws from our experience working in some of Dallas’ finer kitchens,” Johnson says.

They’ve dubbed their concept “come as you are fine dining” with white-tablecloth food but an atmosphere that’s relaxed and casual – a place where you can drop in after shopping without having to run home and change first.

“We’re going to cook dinner the way we would at home – where we grab a baguette and pate and a bottle of wine,” O’Hare says. “It’s about the five senses, the enjoyment of cooking, eating, of sitting down and sharing a meal and enjoying some one’s company.”

Sort of like eating at your mom’s house, if your mom was Alice Waters.

The bar will be managed by Humphries and Larson, founders of the popular Barcadia Bars in Dallas and Fort Worth, and the Beauty Bar on Henderson Avenue. Larson and Humphries will have ample room to shine with a drink menu will include hand-crafted cocktails and an extensive craft beer and wine list. The space currently has three main bars and niches for a more personalized experience.

Renovation of the space is underway with an opening date targeted for spring 2012.
