Drink of the Week: Sambuca

by Katie Minchew

Sambuca. It’s rumored to be Oprah’s humble hangout when in Dallas, so it’s gotta be classy, right? Right. Sambuca is really “top drawer,” despite the long list of occasional less than classy drink names.

When asked, our bartender Joe suggested we try two drinks: Cougar Cool-Aid (Pinnacle Whipped Vodka, peach puree & champagne) and Prickly Pear Margarita (Herradura Reposado Tequila, Patron Citronage, prickly pear juice, lime & orange juice). The first, Cougar Cool-Aid, was sweet, and the second, Prickly Pear Margarita, was sour, but neither of them made our hearts go pitter-patter. Not Drink of the Week worthy at all. What were we supposed to do?

But then, a third drinker made our duo a trio and, more importantly, ordered the Horny Mojito. Thank goodness she joined us or we would have never known the wonderfulness of the Sauza Hornitos Plata Tequila & red passion fruit garnished with mint. Have you ever tried a mojito with tequila? I hadn’t before tonight and was embarrassingly unaware of what I was missing. The cocktail was refreshing, not overpowering, and the mint equaled out the powerful, sweet passion fruit. To top it off, the drink’s cheery, colorful appearance makes it the perfect cocktail to send to the hott honey across the room. Our waiter said that a lot of men order it because of the name (Horny Mojito) but I think it is definitely a drink for the ladies.

This, my friends, is the Drink of the Week. Enjoy.

By the way, Sambuca revamped their cocktail menu less than a week ago and only a few of their signature drinks made the cut. All the more reason to make a trip this weekend.
