The Ann & Gabriel Barbier-Mueller Museum: The Samurai Collection announced its latest summer programming. The museum is located in Dallas’ district of Harwood at the historic St. Ann’s School and is free to the public. This fine collection of Japanese armor has been selectively amassed by Ann and Gabriel Barbier-Mueller and their children over the past twenty five years. The special events are as follows:

Samurai Cocktail Tour: Last Thursdays of each month (6/27, 7/25, 8/29, 9/26), 6-7PM

Book a spot on our after-hours tour of The Samurai Collection. From 6-7pm, enjoy an informal tour of The Samurai Collection, then head downstairs for dinner at Saint Ann Restaurant & Bar. Each month a new, dynamic topic will be explored. Price is $10 a person. Reservations required.

The Samurai Collection consists of several hundred objects and the current display gives visitors the opportunity to encounter powerful artifacts, including many that have never been shown in public. In addition, educational features help set a context and enable the visitors – including children – to gain a fuller understanding of this complex culture.

Samurai belonged to the intellectual elite of Japanese society and practiced disciplines often contrasting with the violence of the art of combat, such as calligraphy, poetry and literature. Their armorers worked as artists creating beautiful pieces, most with delicate details, that were also capable of protecting the samurai in the most violent of battles. The armor of the ancient Japanese warriors, in particular helmets of lacquered metal adorned with crests often inspired by nature, had a duty to report the status.

Family Days: First Saturdays of each month (7/6, 8/3, 9/7), 1-5PM

The first Saturday of each month, from 1-5PM, The Samurai Collection hosts Family Day. Drop by the museum with children ages 4 and up to live a day through the eyes of a samurai. Free to the public – activities and demonstrations change every month. Reservations are recommended.

Lunchtime Talks Every Thursday (6/27, 7/4, 7/11, 7/18, 7/25, 8/1, 8/8, 8/15, 8/22, 8/29, 9/5, 9/12, 9/19, 9/26), 1PM
