Across the street from Trees in Deep Ellum resides Three Links.
Three Links is co-owned by Oliver Peck (Elm St. Tattoo), Kris Youmans (Transmission Events) and Scott Beggs and recently celebrated their second anniversary bringing an excellent mix of Punk, Metal, Ska, Rockabilly (and anything else that tickles Scott’s fancy)acts to their great sounding and accessible room that features a roll up door opening onto Elm Street.
Parking near Three Links is covered in our article here but we did make special mention of the lot across the street behind Trees as one of our favorites. And of course, always consider Lyft instead of driving.
Even since we published our review of Trees last year, the “scene” in Deep Ellum has continued to grow and become the liveliest part of Dallas, with several square blocks of bars and restaurants to choose from before and after the show including the newly resurrected Bomb Factory just a few blocks away.
There are more Deep Ellum food choices than ever, with the opening of Luscher’s Red Hots within the last month adding to Pecan Lodge and Monkey King Noodle Company. Buzz Brews, Café Brazil, Zini’s Pizza and Serious Pizza are all open past 2am. And of course Glazed Donut Works opens at 10:30 on weekend just a few doors down.
Three Links is attached by two doors near the front and rear of the venue to Fuzzy’s Taco Shop next door. This creates a great place to go hang out between shows. Fuzzy’s and Three Links share a common patio in the rear. Many times the bathrooms at Fuzzy’s are easier to get to than the ones at Three Links and are just a few steps from the stage
Ticket prices are rarely above $10-$15 and drink prices are reasonable with dozens of local and other interesting beers on tap and in cans.
The venue is a long narrow room with walkways to the back patio on either side of the stage. The low stage still offers good sight lines and the sound has been upgraded significantly since the venue started life as La Grange several years ago. The room can get very crowded so come earlier for the best positioning. There is not a lot of “strategy” involved to get the best view and sound in a smaller venue like Three Links. Just find a spot in the crowd. But be aware that there may be a little “moshing” at some shows near the front. Taking a few steps back will get you away from the swirls of enthusiastic fans.
The bartenders and bar backs access the beer storage from the left side of the bar past the stage to storage room, so be aware of these folks if you hang to that side to watch the show. Capacity is 125-150. Standing on the right side of the stage near the wall offers the best sight lines with limited traffic once the room gets crowded.
Three Links combines the best features of a reasonably priced local bar with a great mix of local and touring acts almost every night of the week.0
