Eat me: The Outlaw Burger At, Well, Outlaw Burgers

OutlawBurgers1by Trey Moran

Outlaw Burgers has been around Roanoke for a few years now but I only recently decided to stop by. I had heard rumor that they made a good burger and those rumors were true. It’s a kitchy little place just off 377 in old Roanoke. Walk in and order at the counter. The menu is a chalk board above the counter. Burgers, sandwiches, BBQ and all the standard sides are offered.

After asking what the most popular item was I went with the signature “Outlaw Burger”. Unlike most of the other burgers in the area this one has a very unique flavor which comes from the house made habanero & jalapeno relish that is spread liberally on the top bun. The meat is cooked on a flattop so you get that good tasty char that a burger needs. Order a double or else the meat will get lost in all the spice and heat. Underneath the meat patties are a smattering of lettuce, large slices of raw white onion and thick slices of raw jalapeno. I was prepared for the relish to be potent but those raw jalapenos and onions took my breath away, which I liked.

If you like a burger with a good hard kick to the throat then this is for you. You will enjoy every sniffle and every drop of sweat that this one brings out. The burn doesn’t last too long but don’t touch your eyes, or any other parts, until you have washed your hands thoroughly. Also worth a try here are the thick cut, hand battered onion rings, sweet potato fries and fried pickles.

Outlaw Burgers is open 11am-2pm Monday & Tues and 11am-9pm Wednesday-Saturday. Closed on Sunday.
