Call it Crockett Row, call it West 7th, call it what you will. With the constant changes around this area of Fort Worth it’s nice to find something that has remained pretty much the same for four decades. Fred’s Texas Cafe has been at the same location on Currie Street for 40 years.   Just a little holdout shack squeezed in among the glitz and noise of bars and restaurants geared towards the younger set, Fred’s caters to everyone. Young, old, city and country everyone comes to Fred’s for good food, good music and their “cold ass beer”. Continue reading

Eat Me: Cuban Sandwich at Cuco’s

Cucos001.jpg

by Trey Moran

Tucked away in a nondescript residential area in North Richland Hills sits a little pink building that serves up some wonderful Cuban and Caribbean food. Cuco’s is a family owned sandwich shop that for many years has been a hidden gem in an area not known for restaurants. I was turned on to this place by a friend who is Puerto Rican (thanks Mireida!) She told me these were the best Cubano’s around and she wasn’t wrong. Continue reading

Get Your Southern Fixe in Fort Worth

fixe.jpgby Trey Moran

Chef James Robert and Co-Owner Keith House have brought their popular Austin based Fixe Southern House to The Shops at Clearfork in Fort Worth.  Chef Robert has taken on the task of reimagining southern favorites and staples. The menu is based on his family recipes and his experiences growing up in Louisiana. There are touches of old southern charm mixed in with a modern look and feel throughout the restaurant.

In the middle of the main room is a wide beam, pergola type structure draped with strings of lights giving it a back yard type feel. You can watch the magic happen in the large open kitchen from just about any seat in the house.  On the night we visited the background music was a nice selection of classic southern rock that fit nicely with the mood.  The place has a modern but homey feel. It’s a very comfortable atmosphere. But then there is the food. Continue reading

Bumbershoot Serving Up BBQ In Argyle

Bumpershoot003by Trey Moran

Sitting behind  Fuzzy’s Taco Shop and Earl’s 377 Pizza at the intersection of HWY 377 and FM 407 sits a vintage travel trailer serving up some decent hickory & pecan smoked meats.  Bumpershoot BBQ is brought to you by the owners of LSA Burger in Denton and the aforementioned Earl’s 377 Pizza.

Just on first impressions this place should be a hit for this area.  It’s a nice environment and family friendly.  They have about a dozen or so octagon shaped picnic tables, most with umbrellas.  Classic country music was wafting down from up in the trees and the temperature outside was mid 70s and perfect for some outdoor BBQ.   Continue reading

Out of the Fire and into the Fryer at Quincy’s Chicken Shack

Qs-9by Trey Moran

We enjoyed a nice preview dinner at the newest endeavor from the people that bring you Truck Yard and Twisted Root.  Quincy’s Chicken Shack opened in Coppell about 3 months ago and is business is starting to pick up.  Named for co-owner Quincy Hart and loosely based on his family recipes, they wanted to give the place the vibe of hanging in someone’s back yard. Mission accomplished.

Inside is a big open room with big barn doors and a massive Mason jar chandelier.  Family style picnic tables lined with hay bales for sitting. The hay bales were my only complaint of the night. They were not as comfortable as you would think. I did over hear that they were making a change to this so crisis averted.  A massive door opens up to the patio area. Filled with vintage style lawn furniture, tables, a lighted windmill and an old truck with its bed converted to a stage, it was one of the better patios I’ve been to lately and there’s nothing like it in that area. There is also an outside bar.   Continue reading

Maggiano’s Offers New Brunch Items

magg1by Trey Moran

I had the pleasure of sampling the upcoming brunch menu at Maggiano’s Little Italy at Northpark this past weekend and from what they presented it should be a hit.  I’m not much for the big chain restaurants but I have always enjoyed Maggiano’s. The food is always on point and there is always an energetic atmosphere.  And it is always a good place to end up after hiking Northpark all day.   Continue reading

karaokeby Trey Moran

One thing we enjoy at craveDFW is a good song. The only thing better is the sound of our own voice and that means karaoke. A great means of entertainment, and something that brings friends, family and colleagues together is the song.

We have prepared a list of the best karaoke spots in Dallas. This is in no way a definitive list, but we will continue to update so check back often. Look for a Dallas list soon. Feel free to let us know your favorite spot to wail.   Continue reading
