Alex Perry and Alexis Smith have been devastated by the spread of COVID-19, novel coronavirus, across the country. Not only was the couple concerned for the wellbeing of their friends in the local restaurant industry, but also for the wellbeing of the children who benefit from local charities, like the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center. Amidst closures of restaurants, bars, movie theaters and entertainment venues in the city of Dallas, many of the city’s largest fundraisers for charitable organizations have had to be cancelled as well.
“During this trying time, I wanted to support my friends in the restaurant industry any way I could,” said Alex Perry. “I was buying gift cards and ordering takeout and realized there was so much more I could be doing, and we could be doing as a community.”
Alex and Alexis came together to create a GoFundMe page, Kids Save Dallas Restaurants. The pair is asking the Dallas community to come together to support small business owners in their time of need and provide meals to the children of the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center. Alex and Alexis will use donated funds to purchase gift cards from each of the participating restaurants and donate them to the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center so they can provide meals to the children they support.
“So many of us have friends in the restaurant industry, or are loyal to our favorite, local eateries,” added Alexis Smith. “Kids Save Dallas Restaurants gives us the opportunity to help the restaurant industry and children who are in need.”
Restaurants participating in Kids Save Dallas Restaurants include: Spring Creek Barbecue, Norma’s Café, Feed Me Pronto, Terry Black’s Barbecue, Eno’s Pizza Tavern, Whisk Crêpes Café, Al Biernat’s and Easy Slider. Alex and Alexis want to add to this list, as there are many more restaurants in need.
Donations for Kids Save Dallas Restaurants are accepted through Friday, March 27, 2020. If you are a local restaurant owner and would like to be considered for the fundraiser, please email Alexis Smith at email@example.com.
Alex and Alexis have added Yummy Donuts, Ferris Wheelers, Norma’s Café, Stoneleigh P, Chop Shop, Freshii and BBop Korean to the list of restaurants they are donating funds to. To-date, Spring Creek Barbecue, Feed Me Pronto, Whisk Crepes Café, Easy Slider, Terry Black’s Barbecue, Yummy Donuts and Ferris Wheelers have received their donations.
In addition, Mimi’s Pizza is donating 20% of sales each day starting March 23 through the end of April to Kids Save Dallas Restaurants. Mimi’s generosity extends to his fellow hospitality friends in this time of need. And, Spring Creek Barbecue matched the donation, and provided an additional $2,000 in gift cards for Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center.
To-date, Kids Save Dallas Restaurants has raised over $47,000.
