This week we checked in at the Uptown version of Mexican Sugar. Throughout the years we have enjoyed this restaurant but had to make the trek to Plano to sample this delicious menu, but now they stretch out a bit to bring you their special brand of Mexican cuisine along with amazing cocktails.
Mexican Sugar, known for its innovative approach to Mexican cuisine is located at 2355 Olive Street #155, near the popular intersection of McKinney and Olive.

“We’re excited to celebrate Mexican Sugar in Uptown,” said Justin Beam, Director of Operations for Mexican Sugar. “We have created an unforgettable dining experience that celebrates the richness of Mexican culture and cuisine. Our new location offers both elegance and warmth — perfect to celebrate any occasion.”
With more than 12,000 square feet, the new location offers two floors with both indoor and exterior seating options on each level. The transportive atmosphere, with a seating capacity of almost 400, is inspired by the beauty and diversity of Mexican architecture and design.
Short Rib Fajitas
The menu is a celebration of Mexico’s rich culinary heritage, featuring vibrant and bold flavors made from scratch with the freshest ingredients available. Highlights include tacos served on hand-pressed heirloom masa tortillas, tuna crudo, whole fried snapper, smoked lamb neck, and elevated takes on classics like lobster fundito, bone-in pork chop and prime short rib fajitas.
You will find the menu truly amazing and far more reaching than most restaurants in its class.

In addition, the Uptown location features an experiential Agave Library housing a robust collection of over 150 tequilas, mezcals and sotols to complement the bold menu. Mexican Sugar’s drink menu offers hand-crafted agave flights, margaritas, sangrias, wine, beer, fresh juices and coffee. The intimate tequila tasting room upstairs featuring floor tiles with an agave motif and showcasing a vast array of options, including exclusive tequilas not served at the downstairs and upstairs bars and available for intimate dining experiences for nine people.
The downstairs bar offers up several delectable cocktails on tap. Ingeniously, the mixtures are constantly being agitated in the lower cabinets out of sight to ensure the mix is always perfect.
With its many dining tables, sofas, and lounge chairs, the upstairs balcony accommodates a very large crowd. Patio umbrellas, ceiling fans, and retractable shades help to mitigate the Texas heat. On more temperate days, the window wall behind the upstairs bar opens up creating an outside bar.
Overall, the aesthetic is warm, clean and modern with nods to Mexican heritage with large brown leather banquettes, colorful patterned tiles, roughhewn brick, and custom woven art pieces that fill the stairwell, extending from the second floor down to the first.
