Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country Performs at Kessler Theater in Dallas Feb 21

Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country returns to Dallas for a live performance at The Kessler Theater on February 21, following the release of their acclaimed third LP, Horizons (August 22 via Retrace Music). Led by Nashville-based guitarist, songwriter, and bandleader Daniel Donato, the group continues to expand its genre-defying “Cosmic Country” sound—a high-velocity blend of country, rock, bluegrass, funk, and psychedelia engineered to thrive on stage. Horizons has been widely praised, with Glide Magazine calling it “without question, their strongest studio recording to date.”

Co-produced with Vance Powell, Horizons is the band’s most ambitious and fully realized statement yet: a 15-song journey that moves fluidly from traditional picking to heavy rock riffs and expansive, improvisation-driven jams. Donato approaches music as a form of service, aiming to bring clarity, truth, and shared experience to audiences through performance. That philosophy underpins both the record and the band’s live shows, where songs are refined through months—or years—of touring before ever entering the studio.

Born in New Jersey and raised in Nashville, Donato began busking on lower Broadway at 14, eventually cutting his teeth in local honky-tonks and absorbing bluegrass, country, and rock traditions firsthand. A formative Sturgill Simpson concert at the Ryman Auditorium helped crystallize his vision: music that honors American roots while fearlessly pushing them forward. Since debuting with Starlight (2019), followed by A Young Man’s Country, Cosmic Country & Western Songs, and Reflector, Donato has steadily built a devoted following.

Live, Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country—featuring bassist William “Mustang” McGee, keyboardist Nathanael “Sugarleg” Aronowitz, and drummer William “Bronco” Clark—delivers a near-revival atmosphere, balancing virtuosic musicianship with disciplined improvisation. Drawing inspiration from Bill Monroe, the Allman Brothers Band, and the Grateful Dead, the band treats each performance as a collaborative, communal event.

At its core, Horizons reinforces the Cosmic Country mission: rooted storytelling, adventurous improvisation, and an immediately recognizable sound that transcends genre. For Donato, the work is ongoing—and always evolving.
