Chef Randy Morgan Pumps Up Menu at Fish City Grill

by Steven Doyle

We just heard that chef Randy Morgan, the former Microsoft executive chef who has also had stints locally at Oceanaire (as corporate chef trainer), Dallas Fish Market and Hibiscus, has defected and moved on to Fish City Grill to inject new life into the restaurant.

Says Chef Morgan, “When you taste really honest cooking, it is like an awakening unlike anything else. I prefer to deal with small companies who are passionate about the product they send me. I receive several phone calls every morning at the restaurant from the small boutique purveyors I have worked very closely with for the past six years. I look forward to their call because I know that they have gotten their hands on something really amazing and they want me to try it out. And when they share those special catches with me, I feel like a kid at Christmas time.”    Continue reading

Alligator Cafe Opening in Casa Linda

by Steven Doyle

We spoke with chef Ivan Pugh recently, he is the owner of the Alligator Café  located on Live Oak. Alligator Café is the very authentic Cajun restaurant that fries, grills and blackens just about every sea critter including gator, plus some pretty special gumbo.

Chef Pugh discussed a second location for the café in Casa Linda at the former Frankie’s Little Europe spot.  Look for the new location to open up soon. This is great news for the burgeoning area of Dallas that seems to be on a fast but steady up-tick with revitalization and a swarm of new restaurants.

Will Fish for Food at Hook, Line and Sinker

by James McFaddin

Needless to say it’s a major part of my diet and I get a hankering for it throughout the week. When I don’t have it on hand to fry or broil at home I head down to my favorite fishing holes, Hook Line and Sinker.

Hook Line and Sinker is located on the corner of McKinney and Lemmon Ave. It has an inside dining area as well as an uber nice outside patio. No need to dress all fancy, this is casual dining at its best. You place your order at the counter, where there is an overhead menu, and then given a buzzer to let you know when your order is ready. After that it’s pretty much serve yourself. Not to worry though the service is great and they will happily help carry food items to your table.  Continue reading

Extended Crawfish Season!

by Jon Alexis

A few months back, I wrote about the opening of crawfish season.  In “normal” years the season would be over around July 4th. I’d be back to craving crawfish until Spring of next year.

But this year looks to be different. Continue reading
