Dallas Beer Festival Salvaged?

by Steven Doyle

We just received a call from Cathy Rascoe the coordinator of Dallas Beer Week and the recently canceled Dallas Beer Festival. After the initial explanation that pre-ticket sales simply precluded the event from taking place, Rascoe went into deeper explanation.

“We had just over 100 tickets pre-sold for the event Saturday and that just wasn’t enough to go forward. We did the festival last week in Houston and we had between 650 and 700 tickets sold in advance. There were an additional 250 walk-ups that really made the event successful,” said Rascoe.      Continue reading

Dallas Beer Festival Canceled

by Steven Doyle

This was found on the Dallas Beer Festival’s web page Tuesday afternoon:

Hello fellow beer fan,

Unfortunately, we have notify everyone that the Dallas Beer Festival will be postponed indefinitely.

We’ve done our best to provide incredible craft beer, entertainment, and everything else a great festival brings. You’ve seen other large-scale beer events in Dallas in the last year, which have been sponsored by large-scale breweries you’re familiar with. As avid craft beer fans, we chose to create this festival without these sponsors. However, ticket sales have been extremely slow, and in recent days, it has become increasingly apparent that the financial risk is just too high for us to take. We’d really like to get this right the first time around, but we just haven’t been able to generate the interest this festival needs to succeed this year.

Obviously, anyone who purchased a ticket will receive a full refund for the cost of your ticket(s). We have already contacted our ticketing company (Showclix), and your refund will post back to your account in the next 7-10 days.

We apologize for any inconvenience this has has caused, and we certainly hope to make a few adjustments and hold this festival next year. This announcement only affects the Dallas Beer Festival and not any other event that is scheduled. Thanks very much for your understanding, and we’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Update: Pre-sales were in the 100’s.

Beer Week: Deep Ellum Brewing Taps First Keg

by Steven Doyle

The starting bell has chimed and they’re off.  Dallas Beer Week officially begins today and there are plenty of options abound to quench your craft beer thirst.

Actually, the unofficial start was last night at the Anvil Pub with the very first commercial tapping of Deep Ellum Brewing Company’s brew, both their Backslider Blonde and a Double Brown Stout.  The boys at Deep Ellum were on hand to celebrate and there were many revelers  lined up to be the very first to sample their new product.   Continue reading
