Fractal Logic Mural Show and Forces of Nature

by StealingKitty  photos by Robert Bostick

I had the pleasure of attending Kettle Art, ‘Forces of Nature’, opening one hot Thursday night. The exhibition features works from 6 women artists and their interpretation on the theme. What happens after the fire, the sensual cacti, and the joyful celebration of life caught my attention and brought me in for a closer look at this exhibition.

Julia Schloss has been reclaiming and re-imagining found articles since she was a child. This passion continues with her work of reclaiming artifacts found from a burned house in her neighborhood. She took me through her series. The beginning of this story starts with everything burned to a crisp but a couple of photos from a life once shared in a house on a street; the background, burned wallpaper from the ashes. It was heartbreaking.  Continue reading

Webb Gallery Shows Plato o Plomo

by Crave Staff

Camp Bosworth from Marfa, Texas continues his show Plato o Plomo at the Webb Gallery in Waxahachie, just outside of Dallas. The exhibit is thought to be particularly brave as they cover thoughts and illustrations of the border politics, especially as it pertains to the ongoing drug cartels. Ezra Petronio: Bold & Beautiful

by Steven Doyle

For more than a decade, Ezra Petronio has been independently publishing Self Service, a bi-annual fashion and lifestyle magazine. In an Andy Warhol 1970s style, Petronio’s exhibition at Dallas Contemporary is the Polaroid documentation of the creative people that have been involved in the magazine – curators, designers, editors, photographers, thinkers, musicians, artists, socialites, troublemakers. Never before seen in an institutional setting, Petronio’s exhibition explores the diversity of fashion, photography and art. Ezra Petronio was born in New York City in 1968. Petronio lives and works in Paris, France.

Estaban Vicente at the Meadows

In keeping with the Spanish theme for the next few weeks, we present an exhibition currently at the Meadows Museum at SMU.

Esteban Vicente (American, b. Spain, 1903-2001) arrived in New York about a decade before the movement known as Abstract Expressionism began to coalesce.  Amid American and European émigré artists, Vicente was exposed not only to a gamut of aesthetic philosophies, but also to the spectrum of artistic entourages in New York.   Continue reading

Last week I walked into the downtown Dallas Fairmont Hotel wet from the rain with no pretension of knowing anything about what I was getting into or who exactly I would end up meeting. A friend of mine had called and told me to drive up to the hotel and investigate the residency program and so I went. Continue reading
