A Photographic Journey of Mābo

Joey Stewart‘s photographic view of Mābo

Chef Masayuki Otaka, who runs Mābo, calls his restaurant a “premium yakitori omakase restaurant.” Instead of solely focusing on raw fish, Mābo serves a menu featuring more than a dozen courses, most of which are skewered meat and vegetables cooked on a Japanese yakitori using binchotan charcoal.

The price range for Mābo’s omakase menu is $200 per person. While this may seem steep compared to other omakase restaurants in Dallas, it is well worth it considering the quality and variety of dishes offered. While most of the new and existing omakase restaurants in the city serve single bites of fish, only one of Otaka’s courses is sashimi. The attached photos are a complete list of what you will receive as of this date.

by Steven Doyle photos by Joey Stewart

Perry’s Steak House & Grille is celebrating its 44th birthday with a special offer: a delightful four-course meal for only $44. Choose from a variety of options for each course, including a starter, soup or salad, entrée, and dessert. See the menu here.

The Perry family opened its first restaurant in 1979 in Southeast Houston as a modest meat market called Perry’s Butcher Shop and Deli. In 1986, Chris Perry persuaded his father Bob to add dining tables, which eventually led to an expansion and the opening of a second market. As the markets gained popularity, Chris opened Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille in 1993. The original two butcher shops are also still in operation as Perry & Sons Market & Grille.

What do you get when you combine incredible ingredients such as ground Rosewood Wagyu beef, gruyere cheese, maitake aioli, a shallot marmalade, Malagueta pickles all enveloped in a sourdough potato roll? It’s the $17 X-Tudo Burger at Meridian.

One bite sold us on the chef-driven burger of maddening deliciousness, and immediately we knew this was now the top one or two burgers in Dallas. Who has the definitive first place? Hard to tell. Go try this burger during Happy Hour where they are only making ten a day for a trial run and let us know your thoughts.
