Few things make us grin more than a great barbecue on a sunny holiday weekend, and this Memorial Day proved little exception as a band of hungry and thirsty revelers congregated at one of Crave’s favorite wine bars in Dallas – Veritas.
After catching word this weekend from co-owner Brooks Anderson that he was hosting an extemporaneous BBQ and wine tasting, I gathered a group to assemble on the front patio of the Henderson Avenue wine joint.
Alas we found the former National Sales manager from Hasty Bake, makers of one of the best grill I have ever had the pleasure to use, Mr. John McClung. His partner in smoke that afternoon was none other than The Grape chef/ owner Brian Luscher who had just given a cooking demo at the CityArts Festival in Fair Park. Brian had a busy Sunday afternoon, so it would seem.
While owner Brooks was on a mission to gather additional ingredients, we jawed with Luscher and McClung as they prepared almost 50 plates of a variety of meats and veggies.
Do not feel left out, Brooks loves his Hasty Bake and will be joining chef Cody Sharp this coming Sunday on the deck as they face off with a whole salmon. This weekend’s BBQ was a mere 12 bucks and included a vast array of wines to sample, but there are always nice craft beers and one of the better selections of wines in Dallas to choose from at palatable price points.
Call and harass Brooks at Veritas for more details, or better yet go to their website and be added to their coveted list where you will find out about this and many other special events the Anderson brothers conjure up through out the summer. Brooks is a good person to know because not only does he serve great wine, but he and brother Bradley are attornies and have a practice where they can help out with a few of those nasty traffic tickets you got this weekend.

That plate looks so good. When is the next one?
