Mercy Chefs, a faith-based nonprofit organization, is gearing up to deploy to Los Angeles, providing hot meals to communities impacted by recent wildfires. To support this effort, The Giving Table is hosting a special dinner this Sunday, bringing together the Dallas hospitality community for a cause.
The Giving Table was founded by Sharon Van Meter, a veteran Dallas chef and restaurateur, along with Katherine Clapner of Dude Sweet Chocolate. Their mission is to unite the local culinary industry during times of need by hosting events that raise crucial funds.
“It’s an opportunity to come together for a meaningful sit-down dinner and make a difference,” says Van Meter. “This year’s theme, ‘Love for LA,’ is dedicated to supporting Mercy Chefs.”
Van Meter, who actively volunteers with Mercy Chefs, emphasizes that while the organization is faith-based, its mission is solely focused on feeding people in need. Mercy Chefs establishes community kitchens in disaster-affected areas, providing three hot meals a day for extended periods—often three to five years. Their tagline, “Just go feed people,” captures their unwavering commitment. They’ve previously served communities in Maui after devastating wildfires and in North Carolina following Hurricane Helene, often partnering with churches equipped with large kitchens to sustain long-term operations.
This Sunday’s dinner, priced at $125 per ticket, will feature a five-course, family-style meal prepared by over a dozen local chefs. Held at 1340 Inwood Road, Katherine Clapner’s commercial kitchen, the event accommodates 75 guests and promises an unforgettable evening of culinary collaboration.
