We Still Love & Appreciate Neighborhood Services

It’s been a fast minute since we last took a proper look at Neighborhood Services, and returning feels like rediscovering a favorite spot you just haven’t visited in a while. Founded by chef-owner Nick Badovinus, who arrived in Dallas in 1996 with little more than ambition and a pickup truck, Neighborhood Services has grown into a reliable destination for American cuisine that balances comfort, creativity, and consistency.

Walking in, the warm hum of conversation, the clink of glasses, and the easy elegance set the tone: this is a restaurant that feels familiar without ever being stagnant. The staff strikes that perfect balance — attentive without overbearing — guiding diners through a menu that mixes straightforward classics with thoughtful, elevated touches.

The starters alone show the depth of the kitchen’s care. The Butcher’s Meatballs, bathed in house “voodoo” peppercorn sauce, are rich, indulgent, and lightly spiced, a perfect way to kick off the meal. The Jonah Crab & Green Chile Dip is creamy and briny, paired with corn chips that are impossibly crisp — ideal for sharing, though it’s tempting to eat the whole thing yourself. Lighter options like Fried Little Asparagus with lemon-dill and pecorino offer bright, crisp notes, while dishes like Spicy Tuna Tartare or Hamachi Sashimi demonstrate the kitchen’s finesse and eye for balance.

Mains at Neighborhood Services continue to impress. The Steak Frites — a flat-iron “London Broil” served with sea-salted fries and house peppercorn sauce — is hearty, satisfying, and perfectly executed. The Dry-Aged Burger, layered with aged cheddar, caramelized onions, and high-marbled bacon, is indulgent without being over the top. Seafood options, like seared scallops or seasonal fish plates, bring freshness and texture, while classic comfort sides — mac & cheese, potato gratin, and roasted vegetables — round out the experience.

Dessert remains a quietly powerful finish. The Butterscotch Pots de Crème is rich, silky, and deeply satisfying. For chocolate lovers, the warm chocolate cake à la mode delivers molten decadence, while nostalgic touches like banana pudding provide a playful, comforting end to the meal.

What sets Neighborhood Services apart is its consistency and authenticity. It relies on good ingredients, solid techniques, and dishes that genuinely satisfy. The dining room hums with energy with all guests enjoying the same unpretentious yet carefully considered experience. The lighting, the cocktails, and the service all feel intentional, but never forced — a space where a casual dinner can feel special without pretense.
