Open for Tasty Mediterranean, Zon Zon in North Dallas

At 5455 Belt Line Road, Zon Zon has established itself as a distinguished addition to North Dallas’s dining scene. The contemporary Mediterranean restaurant is the latest venture from acclaimed restaurateur Yaser Khalaf, known for Darna at Legacy West and Baboush in the West Village, and marks his first collaboration with his son, Mak Khalaf. The name, a family nickname, reflects the warmth and familiarity that defines the restaurant’s character.

The interior, designed by Coeval Studios, blends modern lines with warm Mediterranean textures. Wood finishes and subtle Middle Eastern details create a polished yet inviting atmosphere, while an open kitchen adds energy without overwhelming the space. Zon Zon is designed for both casual lunches and intimate dinners, offering a comfortable setting for guests to linger.

The menu is intentionally concise, balancing Mediterranean traditions with modern Dallas sensibilities. Mezze highlights include:

  • Hummus with Green Shatta – creamy and bright, accented with fresh herbal heat.
  • Baba Ghanoush – smoky charred eggplant with pomegranate for depth and freshness.
  • Crispy Cauliflower with Saffron Labneh – tender florets with delicate saffron aroma, complemented by tangy labneh.
  • Tuna Neya – fresh tuna dressed in tahini and Aleppo pepper, elegantly layered with flavor.
  • Baked Kibbeh – lamb and pine nut filling with dill labneh, offering structure and richness.

Salads are composed with equal attention: a seared tuna salad with freekeh and golden beets, a tahini Caesar finished with za’atar croutons, and roasted beets paired with burrata, orange, and pistachio.

Entrées range from comforting to refined: oven-roasted chicken with garlic batata, chicken shish kebab over saffron rice, hanger steak shawarma frites, the ZZ wagyu cheeseburger with smoked provolone, prime ribeye with za’atar chimichurri, and apricot lamb couscous. Notable dishes that define the experience include the Crispy Cauliflower, Tuna Neya, Hanger Steak Shawarma Frites, and the Apricot Lamb Couscous.

The beverage program complements the menu with a Mediterranean-inspired focus. The curated wine list pairs seamlessly with dishes, while cocktails such as the Rosemary Sunset Spritz, Midnight Istanbul, and Last Night in Beirut highlight herbs, citrus, and spice. Thoughtful zero-proof options ensure all guests have compelling choices.

Zon Zon is now open for lunch and dinner, offering a refined yet approachable dining experience that balances tradition, innovation, and a sense of neighborhood warmth.

I’m absolutely obsessed with this place. The moment you walk in, the stunning buildout grabs you — every detail feels intentional, warm, and downright beautiful. The food is just as impressive, with every dish hitting that perfect balance of flavor and presentation. And the staff? Truly outstanding. They’re attentive, friendly, and make you feel genuinely taken care of. This restaurant has quickly become one of my favorite spots in the city.
