Headington Companies has spent over a decade proving that’s possible in one specific stretch of downtown Dallas, and this summer the company is pulling its own properties into one loose itinerary, a rooftop pool, a handful of restaurants, a hi-fi bar, a spa, and a 30-foot sculpture, all within a few blocks of each other around The Joule.
The pool is the anchor. Pool Saturdays run each week from 1 to 3 p.m. on The Joule’s rooftop, a rotating series of cocktail tastings and seasonal programming built around brand partners that change through the summer, LALO Tequila, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Waterloo Gin, Murmur Rum, Beluga Vodka, Kastra Elion, and Suntory among them. The featured pours include a Coconut Margarita and a Fraise Tart, plus one-off creations built specifically for the series, so the drink list itself changes depending on which Saturday shows up.
From there the itinerary spreads out into a full day. Mornings start at Weekend Coffee, a walk-up spot for espresso and pastry before a lap through the Main Street District. Mirador handles the skyline-view lunch, seasonal plates against a wide downtown view, while Commissary covers the simpler version, fresh-baked pastries and sandwiches for anyone who’d rather eat and keep moving.
Evenings shift toward the two restaurants inside The Joule itself. Sassetta runs modern Italian built around house-made pastas and wood-fired pizzas, and CBD Provisions, the hotel’s longtime Texas brasserie, keeps its seasonal, locally leaning menu going strong. For a nightcap, Midnight Rambler has been one of downtown’s steadier cocktail bars for years now, and this summer it’s joined by something newer: Shyboy Hi-Fi, Headington’s just-opened listening bar built around serious sound equipment, curated records, and a room designed to make people actually listen rather than just talk over the music.
Two more stops round out the itinerary without requiring a drink in hand. The Spa at The Joule offers facials and massage treatments for anyone treating the weekend as an actual reset rather than just a bar crawl with better lighting, and Forty Five Ten covers the shopping half of the day, the designer retailer that’s anchored Headington’s Main Street District presence for years. And no lap through the neighborhood is complete without a stop at The Eye, Tony Tasset’s 30-foot eyeball sculpture that’s become one of downtown Dallas’s most photographed landmarks almost by accident, the kind of oddity that ends up in everyone’s phone regardless of whether they planned to stop for it.
None of this requires booking a room at The Joule, though staying there obviously makes the whole thing easier logistically. It works just as well as a Saturday plan for anyone already living in or near downtown who wants an excuse to treat their own neighborhood like a destination for a day.
