Truck Yard Is Opening in Richardson on September 1

Richardson is getting its own version of the backyard party that’s been packing the patio on Lower Greenville for more than a decade. Truck Yard is opening a new location at 740 S. Central Expressway on September 1, taking over the spot that used to be Old 75 Beer Garden.

The building sits inside Richardson Restaurant Park, right off Central Expressway, and it’s been sitting empty since Old 75 closed a couple years back. Truck Yard owner Jason Boso has been working on the Richardson build for a while now, and the plan has always included a second concept next door: Second Rodeo Brewing, his live-music brewery and beer garden that got its start in the Fort Worth Stockyards. Second Rodeo isn’t open yet, but it’s part of the long-term build on the property.

What Richardson is getting first is the Truck Yard formula that’s made the Lower Greenville original one of the more recognizable hangouts in Dallas. Rotating food trucks parked around an open-air yard, a full bar, live music most nights, and a patio where your dog is as welcome as you are. There’s an on-site kitchen too, so it’s not purely truck-dependent the way some food truck parks are.

Truck Yard hasn’t published hours or a locked-in food and drink lineup for the Richardson location yet, so I’m not going to pretend those details exist before they do. But if it runs the way the other locations run, expect the kitchen and rotating trucks to lean into the stuff Truck Yard is known for across its Dallas, Fort Worth, Oklahoma City and Colony locations: loaded nachoshand-cut frieswingsburgers, and a rotating hot dog menu that’s become something of a signature. On the drink side, the flagship locations pour house cocktails alongside a heavy rotation of Texas craft beer, so I’d expect Richardson to open with a similar bar program once the taps are locked in.

Richardson’s restaurant scene has been building out fast along Central Expressway and Restaurant Park, and a Truck Yard gives the area something it didn’t have: a low-key, come-as-you-are spot built around live music and rotating trucks rather than a single kitchen. It also puts Second Rodeo Brewing on the calendar for whenever that build wraps up next door.

Truck Yard Richardson opens September 1 at 740 S. Central Expressway, Richardson, TX 75080. Updated hours and opening-day food truck lineup are expected on Truck Yard’s Richardson page as the date gets closer.
