Dallas will soon be getting a barrage of food trucks joining the ranks of those already buzzing about town doing their thing at festivals and private catering gigs.
We met chef Lauren Jones of The Hot Box truck last October and saw her again more recently. She mentioned she has been doing quite well with her made-from-scratch recipes and we are eager to see her succeed. The sprite chef works full time at The Grape in addition to her own catering duties. The truck is currently offering crawfish boils across town, along with other types of parties.
But with every success story, something entirely evil lurks in the shadow. The deep pockets of the 60-year old Jack In The Box is joining the ranks of fresh start up companies who may not be ready for prime time or brick and mortar. Thankfully the first of what may be many trucks currently resides in San Diego, far removed from Texas.
According to their Facebook page the cone-headed genius at the fast food chain is soliciting events, allowing their fans (200 when we posted this story) to suggest locations. The Munchie Mobile, as it is dubbed, will make some of their normal menu items inside the splashy truck and seems eager to hit festivals and concerts. A call to Jack Headquarters revealed that the truck will roam the state including locations like Los Angeles. I would steer clear of Texas, Jackson, Lauren is pretty fiesty.
