Kuby’s has been a Dallas institution since 1961 creating house-made sausages, offering cured meats, a large variety of salads and fresh meats in their delicatessen. A few years back Karl Kuby told us that he has a smoker that is massive and valued in excess of $125,000. That dedication to the craft is evident in the product they make available at their Snider Plaza location in Dallas.

There is little to make a sandwich wonderful other than fantastic bread, well thought out seasonings and spreads, and a filling that should be unsurpassed. When deciding a list of our favorites, it seemed a more daunting task than originally thought. So much more came to mind as the list was settled.

Time reminds us that restaurants have become ever more popular in television as in real life, so we decided to think of as many fake restaurants that we could come up with that have been featured on television or a movie. For the older crowd maybe the first you can think of was when Aunt Bee pulled out $400 from savings to open Bee’s Restaurant on the Andy Griffith Show. Or a few generations later perhaps Arnold’s Drive In run by the future Mr. Miyagi on Happy Days.

Through out Chinese history you will find notable recipes, poetry and even songs extolling the virtues of the tasty duck. The most popular treatment is by far the Peking Duck, one of Kissinger’s favorite and is said to have brought together our two countries during the 70’s Nixon visits.
Now considered a national dish, the Chinese roasted duck can be found almost everywhere. The best versions are most assuredly found where you may view the carcasses in their full splendor, and one of our very favorites can be tasted at First Chinese BBQ. Continue reading

India’s cuisine is as rich and diverse as her people. The spectrum of Indian cuisine can be said to lie between two dietary extremes: vegetarianism and meat-eating. India is well-known for its tradition of vegetarianism which has a history spanning more than two millennia. However, this was not always the case.
As India has been the crossroads of many people and cultures over centuries, foreign elements have invariably seeped into its culinary culture, sometimes displacing or modifying local cuisines. The invasion brought changes in many aspects of everyday life in India, including the palates of the Indian people which became tempered by a foreign taste.
Styles of eating differed between the Hindus and the Muslims. In contrast to the Muslims, the Hindus usually take their meals individually, a feature that may have developed as a result of rules regulating eating practices across castes. Continue reading
