A Week of Cravings

by Steven Doyle

Another week of Crave is passing us by bringing a fun look at what Dallas and Fort Worth has to offer up in nightlife and the dining scene.

We spoke with chef Kent Rathbun of Abacus fame earlier in the week and he recounted his trip to Thailand that he shared with his lovely bride Tracy, who is one of the principals at Duo and Shinsei. The photos Kent and Tracy shot were breathtaking, as are the many dishes he shared Wednesday evening at a Duo cooking class. The Rathbun couple are a formidable force in the Dallas culinary landscape.

I personally enjoyed Savor Dallas last weekend and we had a fun wrap up with that delicious annual adventure.

Michael Westfried waxed lovely thought about a super amazing gallery in Deep Ellum called The Kettle Art Gallery. We appreciate Michael’s focus on the local art world. Coming from a talented artist such as himself it helps to see that focus through his gifted eye.

We added another talent this week to the Crave line up and want to thank Rich Rogers for his cheesy thoughts that will be coming

Rich Rogers of Scardello

at us on a regular basis. We adore Scardello for their knowledge and love of artisan cheeses, and look forward to learning so much more in the coming months.

Ina Bostick was busily filling in for me and hit several cool dinners, least of which was held at Lee Harvey’s where she and hubby (and Crave photog) Robert dined al fresco on some good southern cuisine. The report made me want to “slap my mama“, but I would never do that because she makes a mean chocolate cake.

This weekend Crave hosts yet another installment of the Dallas Food Tours and will focus on pizza around the Dallas area. We even visit a chef’s home who is considering opening a pizza-based restaurant. Full report here on Monday.

Also this weekend we will attend the No Tie Dinner and Dessert Party at The Frontiers of Flight Museum that benefits AIDS Services of Dallas. This special event features unique dinner parties across the city in individuals homes and culminates at the museum for chef driven desserts, wine and live music all to raise awareness and much needed funds for the men, women and children living at AIDS Services of Dallas.

We also forgot to announce the winner of the Artizone $50 gift certificate… Justin Foley claim your prize. Send me an email with your addy and we will get this off to you today.

Next week we taste some chicken fried steak, speak to a great chef, listen to some even greater music, attend a few wine dinners and share it all here at Crave. We also have a few new features that will interest everyone starting this coming week. Hope to see you all on the town.

What are you craving?
