Eat Me: Monte Cristo at Vickery Park

When I think of the tavern on Henderson, Vickery Park, I think about this marvelous craft beer selection and late night tacos. The tacos are stored steaming in an ice chest behind the bar, and are always pretty damned good. They will also have burritos and a grilled cheese sandwich made with jalapeño havarti, smoked gouda and cheddar cheeses, melted in between toasted Texas toast. You may add bacon, jalapenos or avocado for a bit more cash, but otherwise this a great late night option.

I have never thought about the Vickery Park kitchen much beyond the taco fascination, but as luck would have it they have some magic going on in the kitchen behind the bar.

Brunch is a bit of a celebration for Vickery and they turn out some pretty delicious plates festooned with eggs and other expected fare. The chilaquiles go unmatched, to be sure. Also look for great evening fare like their ten dollar bar pizza, fish chips made with cod (a personal favorite), and a great deal on a hangar steak served with veggies and gouda spuds at a bargain price.

However, when you run across a fresh take on a Monte Cristo, my very favorite sandwich ever made , you have no choice but to order the beast. And a delicious selection it is with turkey, ham, Swiss and cheddar on French toast with raspberry jelly and served with two eggs and your choice of fruit, hash browns or fries.

Be on the look out for their occasional beer dinners that are always unexpectedly tasty.

Vicxkery Park is located at 2810 N Henderson in Dallas.
