If you are going to spend a Saturday afternoon in Dallas in July, you want shade, something cold in your hand, food that encourages you to stay, and a room that doesn’t feel like it’s trying too hard. Paradiso in Bishop Arts checks every one of those boxes and then keeps going.

The patio is the reason people keep coming back. It’s a sprawling garden courtyard at 308 N. Bishop Avenue with mature trees providing real shade, brick pathways winding through lush greenery, string lights overhead, and multiple seating zones — high tops near the cocktail bars, lounge chairs under the pergola, a raw bar and champagne room called the Mermaid Bar tucked into one corner. It does not feel like a Dallas patio. It feels like a courtyard somewhere in the south of France that happens to be in Oak Cliff.
The food is Southern European and built for sharing. The mezze cart rolls through the patio with oysters, fried artichoke hearts, toasted fregola, and shrimp cocktail — the right way to start if you want to order slowly and drink first. The heirloom tomato salad with sheep’s milk ricotta is the summer plate, simple and exactly right. The wood-fired pizzas are made in-house — the soppressata with brick oven mozzarella, garlic, basil, and calabrese honey is the one to order for the table. The pasta program is all house-made: the cavatelli with artichoke hearts, pesto, spinach, and lemon is the lighter option and holds up well in the heat.

The cocktail program leans floral and Mediterranean — spritzes, gin drinks, fruit-forward aperitif riffs. The banana espresso martini with Baileys has developed a genuine following and is better than it sounds. The wine list covers Old and New World with enough range to keep the table occupied through multiple rounds. If you want to settle into the more cocktail-forward side of the property, Bar Eden Lounge opens Wednesday through Sunday at 4pm and runs until midnight — first come first served, full cocktail menu, acoustic music on weekends.

Reservations are worth making for Saturday dinner — patio tables fill fast and the good seats go first. Brunch and lunch run daily from 11am to 3pm, with a limited menu from 3 to 5pm. Dinner runs Monday through Thursday 5 to 10pm, Friday and Saturday 5 to 11pm, Sunday 5 to 9pm. Phone is (214) 944-5865. The full reservation link is at paradisodallas.com.
Get there before sunset. Stay well past it.
