Uchiko Plano Starts Lunch, a First for Uchi in North Texas

For as long as Uchi has been in North Texas, getting in has meant a dinner reservation. That changes next month in Plano.

Uchiko Plano starts serving lunch on Friday, Nov. 6. It’s the first time any of Hai Hospitality’s Uchi restaurants in Dallas-Fort Worth, including Uchi and Uchibā Dallas, has opened its doors at midday. Lunch will run Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays only, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Uchiko, which means “child of Uchi,” is the smokier, more fire-driven sibling of chef Tyson Cole’s original Uchi, which opened in Austin in 2003. The Plano location opened at Legacy West in June 2024, the third Uchiko after Austin and Houston, and much of its menu comes off a wood-fired hearth and yakitori grill.

The $25 Lunch

The best deal on the new menu is a $25 prix fixe. You pick a starter from Brussels sprouts, sunomono, hama chili or grilled romaine. The main is a choice of the burger, karaage, salmon or a vegetable tom kha, and seasonal sorbet closes things out.

For sushi people, the $45 sushi omakase brings sunomono, a temaki, hama chili, two pieces of chef’s choice nigiri and three pieces of chef’s choice sashimi. Either set can get a tart or cheesecake added for $5.

Lunch-Only Plates

The à la carte side is where the lunch menu gets interesting. The chicken sando, at $18, comes with hot oil, house bread-and-butter pickles and green cabbage slaw. The burger is $22, with charred onion aioli, American cheese and beef fat fries, and steak frites are $38, a Denver steak with tallow fries.

On the lighter side there’s a chirashi bowl for $28, with tuna, salmon, yellowtail, avocado and cucumber over sushi rice, and a salmon plate for $25 with kosho beurre blanc, turnip and frisée.

The Uchiko standards are available at lunch too. That includes the hama chili, the hot rock with Westholme wagyu and ponzu, and the full nigiri and sashimi list, which runs to Japanese sea bream, goldeneye snapper, smoked ocean trout and bluefin tuna.

The bar works the lunch shift as well, with cocktails, sake, wine, beer and zero-proof drinks. A lychee martini with odka, nigori sake and yuzu leads the cocktail list. If it’s a workday, the baked apple mule is made with baked apple cordial, lemon and ginger beer, and no alcohol.

Uchiko Plano is at 7801 Windrose Ave., Suite H 150, at Legacy West. Lunch starts Nov. 6 and runs every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Call (214) 855-5454 or book through the restaurant’s website.
