On May 1st, Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse and Penfolds worked together to create an event celebrating the release of the 2006 Grange, widely considered one of the greatest wines in the world. This gave Angie from Penfolds an easy platform to speak of the Penfolds portfolio as well as some great food from Ruth’s Chris. This release gave cause to celebrate simultaneously nationwide. Iron Fork Wrap Up

by David Donalson

photos by Natalie Holl

When we think of FIG, we usually think more of a fruit and less on the Fashion Institute Gallery, and on this last Wednesday, it seemed a bit more fitting as the Dallas Observer, in conjunction with Whole Foods, Fuze, Avion tequila and many other local establishments, created an event centered around food and wine. The highlight of the evening was an “Iron Chef” style cook-off between Charlie Palmer at the Joule’s executive chef Scott Romano and Suze Restaurant’s Gilbert Garza. We purchased a VIP pass and got in early, a key element to being able to taste and drink everything. Continue reading →

About once a month, the people at Pappa Bros. Steakhouse do a wine tasting of various themes. April’s theme was one of the most anticipated among my group of regulars, Pinot Noir. Continue reading →

Perfect Day for Beer

by David Donalson

Upon entering the T & P building in Ft. Worth, there was little doubt what people were here to do. It was time to taste beer. If you didn’t know, there were small tables that had signs with memorable names like Spaten, Brooklyn, and Deschutes to stand and socialize while tasting great beers.  Continue reading →

Rockwall Festival on Main Street

by David Donalson

Could you ask for a more perfect day to be outside than this past Saturday? I could not help get out of the house and go visit one of the many festivals going on throughout the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. This led me up to Rockwall, across the beautiful lake and up Main Street to the arts and crafts festival. Continue reading →

Texas Wineries – Times Ten Cellars in Dallas

by David Donalson

Times Ten Cellars is a different breed than the other wineries in Dallas. Calais and Fuqua are built around a small bar where the tastings can happen and the rest of the space is set aside for the actual winemaking process. When you walk into Times Ten, it would appear that you are walking into a restaurant or lounge instead of a winery.  Continue reading →

Cotes du Coeur Grand Tasting and Gala

Bob Egelhoff kicking his heals

by David Donalson

Where did you have to be this last Saturday in order to taste Dean Fearing’s apricot barbecue glazed quail paired with a Martinelli Pinot Noir poured by Regina Martinelli herself? How about an auction where you could bid on a 3 liter bottle of Cristal Rose or a visit to each of Kent Rathbun’s  restaurants including his penthouse? The answer is one of the most unique events in all of Dallas, the Côtes du Coeur. Continue reading →

Release Event – Inwood Estates Vineyard Cornelious Reserve

by David Donalson

People in Dallas and Florence are in for a treat this weekend. I just finished  talking and tasting with Marc Moberg of Inwood Estates  regarding their Cornelious Reserve, a 100% Tempranillo that is about to change the way people think about Texas wines. When I sat down to taste the wine, I had a few questions I wanted to ask about its production. Continue reading →
