Tamales at La Popular Feed the Community (And They Want To Give You 10 Dozen Free!)

by Steven Doyle    photos by Robert Bostick

Today we visit with the absolute giants in the tamale industry, La Popular. The Tamale House has gained a reputation for not only making quality tamales year round, but also takes pride in giving back to the community as we will find out with this Q&A with both Jesse Moreno Sr. and Jr. at La Popular.

La Popular is one of the most respected tamale makers in Dallas and for a good reason. The tamale continually makes the top of any best tamale list since they opened in 1984. There are currently two locations for La Popular, one in the Lakewood area and the other in Shed #1 at the Dallas Farmers Market. You ma pick up fresh, hot tamales for the holidays at either location, even on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve.

2012 Dive Bar Tour Rolls Through Dallas

by Steven Doyle     photos by Robert Bostick

Planning the latest Dallas Bus Tour was a blast. Previous editions included tours that explored Tacos, Pizza, Burgers, and even vegan food in Dallas. The trick behind a successful tour I am finding is not to over think the process. Load up 25 adults onto a bus full of beer, wine and cocktails and point them in any direction and they will have fun.

However, for the first tour exploring almost only alcohol I wanted to play it safe. No stabbings, no arrests, no crying.            Continue reading

New Location for Taco Guero

by Steven Doyle

Our eagle-eyed legal friend Michael Hubbard (you may know his delightful wife  Margie of Dallas Eats fame) has spotted a new restaurant in Dallas and this is a place we can all rally around. If you recall our Taco Tour  some months back, many of us touring felt the best taco in Dallas comes from Taco Guero. Now find a new location for the tiny taco stand.  Continue reading

Texas Wineries – Times Ten Cellars in Dallas

by David Donalson

Times Ten Cellars is a different breed than the other wineries in Dallas. Calais and Fuqua are built around a small bar where the tastings can happen and the rest of the space is set aside for the actual winemaking process. When you walk into Times Ten, it would appear that you are walking into a restaurant or lounge instead of a winery.  Continue reading
