Crow Museum of Asian Arts to unveil three exhibitions opening April 5 at its downtown Dallas Arts District location

This spring, the Crow Museum of Asian Art will unveil three exciting exhibitions at its downtown Dallas Arts District location, showcasing the dynamic work of international and self-taught artists. Opening April 5, the museum will present Cecilia Chiang: Don’t Tell Me What To DoAnila Quayyum Agha: Let One Bird Sing, and The Shogun’s World: Japanese Maps from the MacLean Collection. Free and open to the public, each exhibition offers a unique perspective on culture, creativity and social justice, inviting visitors to experience a wide range of artistic expressions and narratives. The downtown Dallas address of the Crow Museum is 2010 Flora St.

Anila Quayyum Agha: Let One Bird Sing marks the launch of a new exhibition series called Texas Ties that showcases artists with connections to the Lone Star State. Let One Bird Sing invites reflection on environmental degradation and the silencing of marginalized voices. Agha, who earned her Master of Fine Arts from the University of North Texas (UNT) in 2001 and lived in Texas for eight years, uses her art to address these pressing global issues.

Crow Museum of Asian Art Unveils Winter/Spring Season of Exhibitions, Events at UT Dallas and Dallas Arts District Locations

Nearly five months after the Crow Museum of Asian Art unveiled its second location on The University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) campus, the museum is announcing its 2025 winter/spring season, packed with new exhibitions, interactive workshops, educational experiences and captivating multimedia performances. Visitors can explore a range of Asian artistic expressions including engaging installations, hands-on activities and events for all ages – from art enthusiasts and families to anyone seeking to broaden their cultural understanding. Highlights include the debut of an immersive multimedia installation – Saya Woolfalk’s Floating World of the Quilted Cloud – opening March 8 at the UT Dallas museum, alongside three compelling exhibitions opening April 5 at the Dallas Arts District location.

Additionally, the museum is offering a range of interactive programs, from Saturday drop-in tours to a performance of Kinmakers: Hidden Songs in Our Mother’s Dreams, curator lectures and hands-on workshops like Shibori dyeing with designer Mili Suleman. With its many offerings, the Crow Museum promises an unforgettable celebration of Asian culture that invite guests to explore, learn and connect. Crow Museum of Asian Art Presents Phoenix Rising: Xu Bing and the Art of Resilience

One of the most mythical and popular beasts of Chinese folklore has landed as the Crow Museum of Asian Art of The University of Texas at Dallas presents Phoenix Rising: Xu Bing and the Art of Resilience.The exhibition will run Nov. 3, 2022, through March 5, 2023, at the Crow Museum, located in the Dallas Arts District at 2010 Flora St., Dallas 75201. Phoenix Rising is organized by the Crow Museum of Asian Art in partnership with the international Asian Cultural Council.

The exhibition highlights a celebrated work – Bronze Phoenix 2016 (Feng and Huang) – created by Xu Bing (b. 1955 Chongqing, China), an internationally acclaimed artist, academic and innovator whose award-winning works have been showcased in the world’s top museums and art biennales. In addition to Xu’s headlining work, Phoenix Rising includes five works from the Crow Museum’s Chinese jade collection that also celebrate the revered phoenix.

CROW MUSEUM OF ASIAN ART PRESENTS U.S. DEBUT OF THE CRITICAL DICTIONARY OF SOUTHEAST ASIA BY HO TZU NYEN OPENING SEPT. 25

The Crow Museum of Asian Art of The University of Texas at Dallas will present the U.S. premiere of The Critical Dictionary of Southeast Asia by internationally renowned artist Ho Tzu Nyen featuring an enthralling, constantly evolving moving-image installation. The exhibition opens Sept. 25, 2021, and continues through Jan. 30, 2022 at the museum’s location in the Dallas Arts District, 2010 Flora St. 

The Critical Dictionary of Southeast Asia is part of an ongoing project that grows, generates and provides critical insight into the pluralistic definitions of the territories under the term “Southeast Asia.” Born out of recognition for how sweeping the term “Southeast Asia” is, the project considers what makes up an area not unified by language, religion or political power.
