Review: Mot Hai Ba

Mot Hai Ba, the new East Dallas hot spot which is the latest entry into Vietnamese dining is hitting its stride to a packed house each night as guests clamor to sample Jeana Johnson and Colleen O’Hare cuisine. Having spent much time carousing in the Southeast Asian country, Chef Johnson told us last night that this was as authentic as you will ever find in the Dallas area. We readily agree.

The flavors that the chef duo bring to the plate is dining s you might enjoy in Vietnam. The afternoon service is gilded much like you would find on the streets of Hanoi. Quick bites including a very tasty banh mi spread thick with pate and roasted pork on a crisp yet relenting bun, and a rich version of pho.   Continue reading

Mot Hai Ba Brings Northern Vietnamese Cuisine To Lakewood

One, Two, Three, Pho. If it’s dark outside, you won’t be eating Pho. At least not when Mot Hai Ba (pronounced mo’oht high bah and translates to “one, two, three”) opens today.

That’s because the flavorful soup is never served at dinner in Vietnam. And it’s that kind of authenticity that Jeana Johnson & Colleen O’Hare (Goodfriend Beer Garden and Burger House, Good 2 Go Taco) plan to infuse into everything at their newest venture.

Well, except maybe the French wines and Belgian beers. That’s more a tradition-in-the-making.    Continue reading

Banh Mi From Lunch At Malai

I had a chance to stop in Malai Thai-Vietnamese Kitchen  yesterday for lunch and was taken in by the $7 Banh Mi. This is the sandwich made up of special Vietnamese baguette that is baked daily and is topped with pickled carrots, daikon radish, cucumbers, spicy aioli and Sriracha.  You are given a choice of proteins that include chicken, pulled pork, Vietnamese ham (say howdy this is delicious), fried tofu, seared shrimp or their own special meatballs.       Continue reading
