While pondering the various places to spend New Years Eve this year one of the first places I thought of was Studio 80 in downtown Fort Worth. I’m glad I called when I did because they were just about booked for reserved tables. The table fee was extremely reasonable for 4 seats with party favors (hats, glasses, horns, etc.) and a full size bottle of champagne. A good time was certain to be had by all.
Studio 80 previously existed in the Cultural District off of University Drive and shared a parking lot with The Grotto. After shutting down to remodel, a fire and landlord issues the club relocated to the spot previously occupied by Vee Lounge off Taylor Street downtown. The new club has much more square footage, better video screens, a better sound system and is actually two clubs in one.
One side is the 80’s club with video screens showing the greatest dance songs of the 1980s with the music blasting and the dance floor full of all ages dancing to The Cure, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard and all the other songs you would expect to hear. It’s a lighthearted good time. Great for people watching for those that don’t really dance (raising my hand). The bartenders pour some good drinks here too.
The other side of the club, located through an opening, is another dance club, “The Fashion Lounge” with your traditional top 40 dance music. There is a runway style dance floor here where on Wednesday evenings they have a Ladies Only Fashion Show with free cheese boards an half off everything from the bar.
In addition to the two dance clubs there is also a patio with a piano, which is usually pumping out some Jazz.
On Thursdays Studio 80 goes country. 80’s and 90’s country along with a ladies tight fitting jeans contest with cash prizes.. This seems a perfect fit for Fort Worth. After all, it is where the west begins.
