Ocean Prime Still in its Prime

The last time CraveDFW featured Ocean Prime we showcased the huge Red King Crab legs that had just been flown in from Bristol Bay. As this was over two years ago, we thought it was time to head back and see how it’s keeping up with all the competing seafood spots that have opened in Dallas since that report.

Ocean Prime Uptown is one of sixteen locations across the states and boasts a menu that features items like sushi and poke, indulgent seafood entrees, prime steaks, desserts, signature cocktails, and a Wine Spectator-honored wine list.

The dark, retro dining room is still packed with well-heeled guests, the service is stellar from start to finish, and each dish we tasted was expertly cooked. In short, it hasn’t missed a step. We chose to sit in the more relaxed and bright “Terrace,” which allows for a casual dining experience.

East Coast Oysters on the Half Shell

The raw bar area of the menu offers oysters on the half shell, chilled crabmeat cocktail, jumbo shrimp cocktail, Alaskan King Crab Legs and a “smoking” seafood tower which can be custom built by the diner.

The seafood section reads much like a greatest hits list: salmon, scallops, crab cakes, lobster tails, sea bass and tuna. But like the other 15 locations around the U.S., they make sure to include dishes sourced from the region, which, on our visit, was Blackened Texas Redfish.

Twin Lobster Tails with asparagus and drawn butter

Steaks are Prime grade, aged and broiled at 1200 degrees. Three styles of Filet Mignon, a New York Strip and a Ribeye can be dressed with any of their six different sauces, available for a few more bucks.

The rich, sweet and delicate Red King Crab can be ordered as an appetizer, as well as a main course.

Berries and Bubbles –  Belvedere Citrus Vodka, Grand Marnier, Marinated Berries, Fresh Lemon, Domaine Chandon Brut and Dry Ice Smoke
Ten Layer Carrot Cake – Cream Cheese Icing And Pineapple Syrup

Don’t miss the fun cocktail program. Be sure to grab one of the options that are served tableside and finished with dry ice, which will keep that drink smoking for fifteen minutes or more.

No dinner is complete without dessert, and Ocean Prime has several decadent choices: Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie, Creme Brûlée and Sorbet, but the most popular is the Ten Layer Carrot Cake.

Whether you are ready to dress to the nines for a fancy night out or stick to casual for an easy-going experience, Ocean Prime meets the need. There’s really something for everyone here.

  1. Wow their seafood selection is impressive. I think it’s cool that you did a follow-up review, and I’m happy to hear your positive review. It’s been a long time since I’ve been to a proper seafood restaurant. I’ve just been ordering seafood online!
