Tesar Sweeps Extreme Chef

We reported days ago about chef John Tesar of The Commissary  competing in the Food Network Extreme Chef competition, and last night we slipped in the to watch the program at the One Arts Plaza restaurant with the chef.

For those that haven’t heard, he did win the $10,000 prize. He beat out two very competent and competitive chefs in racing across a farm to gather ingredients, milking cows and ultimately cooking with a blow torch and a hack saw.     Continue reading

Tonight: Jazz Under the Stars

Join rising vocalist Rosana Eckert for the finale of the 2011 Jazz Under the Stars  season. Eckert’s style fuses bossa nova, blues, and traditional swing with original songs and unique arranging. She is known for her knack for storytelling and her ability to breathe new life into beloved standards with her contemporary style. Eckert has performed with such jazz greats as Kenny Wheeler, Lyle Mays, and Jon Faddis as well as with the acclaimed group New York Voices. 

Summer nights sizzle with cool jazz under the stars. Bring a picnic and blanket or purchase food and beverages on-site.

Quest for Burgers: The Commissary

This week’s burger quest took our group to One Arts Plaza to visit The Commissary – John Tesar’s new restaurant. At lunch, the Commissary’s menu features small plates, salad and a variety of burgers including ones made with short ribs, braised pig tails and pork belly, duck eggs and lamb among other ingredients.

While the other burgers sounded intriguing on the menu, I decided to go with the Magic Burger which featured an eight ounce grass fed beef patty and apple wood smoked bacon. I ordered the burger medium and served on a brioche bun instead of the standard English muffin. All burgers come with skinny fries and the half pound Magic Burger cost $9.74. TACA Lexus Party on the Green showcases the culinary talents of celebrity guest chefs from Dallas and around the world, who dish up their signature cuisine at stations set throughout Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek. A silent auction, wine cork pull and vibrant musical entertainment add to the evening’s festivities. The Wiz at the Wyly on Sale Today
