Valentine’s Day is one where we thinking about hooking up for a grand date, and Dallas has plenty of choices for prix fixe meals and specials for the night for that special someone in your life. But what if we are playing solo for the big night? Don’t play into the hype and feel you need to hunt a date, we have you covered for a perfectly acceptable night on the town with no regrets. Don’t stay at home, get out there and enjoy. It is always fun to people watch, especially the couple who just met for the first time from Match.com.

Angel Envy Bourbon Dinner At Standard Pour

DSC03924by Steven Doyle

For fans and followers of chef Cody Sharp, as we announced about a month ago he is now hanging his toque at Standard Pour on McKinney in Uptown. Last night the chef performed his first of what hope will be many cocktail dinners at the two year old bar. The style of cookery defined mostly what Sharp is all about, and that is a refined view of Southern cuisine. Sharp rose through the ranks steadily, taking knowledge from some pretty fantastic chefs such as Randall Copeland and Nathan Tate, Scott Romano, Matt McCallister, Katherine Clapner, and most recently at Casa Rubia with Omar Flores. Last night we watched Sharp fly as executive chef along with his new sous Callie Doyle.    Continue reading

Standard Pour Is 2 Years Old!

standard3by Steven Doyle

It seems just like yesterday when Standard Pour opened its doors, and we all clamored in for a peek and a drink. The menu was shockingly good, and often you can find diners eagerly ordering fried chicken and a platter of delicious shishitos and edamame.  For the ladies, Wednesday night has become synonymous with a free three course dinneer. This week it surrounds rainbow trout and cheesecake. The place will be jammed packed.

More than anything, Standard Pour is a place for some of the best cocktails, with a full staff of talented barmen (and women), plus there are always amazing guest bartenders behind the stick.    Continue reading

Celebrate Two Year Anniversary of Standard Pour Tonight

standard2by Steven Doyle

Two years ago craveDFW held a special pre-opening party that should have hosted about 75 people at Standard Pour. That night we packed the house with eager people wanting to see what the next evolution of bars on McKinney Avenue would be all about. That night we saw promise of fantastic cocktails and food at price points that defied the norm at the time. You may recall that craft cocktails were unique and selling for $15+ a glass. It was fun to watch our favorite mixologist take 20 minutes of his life to hand grind a delicious cocktail with a cornucopia of garnish on top. But soon we became weary of that treatment. Standard Pour reinvented the way we tasted craft cocktails with the guidance of Brian McCullough.

At the time McCullough said that it shouldn’t take long to make your favorite libations, and the drinks shouldn’t be weighed down with a grocer’s list of ingredients. Standard Pour would be making interesting, and classic cocktails one at a time in record time and at a price that you could enjoy several.  He also hired the best trained staff to make all this come to fruition.    Continue reading

Lime Shortages May Cost You Your Margarita

limeby Steven Doyle

By now you have seen or heard about the price of limes which have risen from about $20 a case in the winter to just over $100. That is an amazing leap that has some margarita aficionados running scared. We spoke to FreshPoint’s president Lucian LaBarba, the major distributor for produce in our market, and he said that the prices have jumped due to climate changes. The limes we see in Texas are imported from Mexico, and the reason is a mixture of unseasonably cold weather, hurricane and storm systems and drought.    Continue reading

Cocktails For A Cause This Sunday At Standard Pour

trigger1by Tracy Jimenez

Calling all cocktail lovers! On Sunday, December 15th, 45 of DFW’s best bartenders are shaking concoctions for charity in this year’s Cocktails for a Cause. They will take over The Standard Pour in Uptown to raise money for a local charity called Trigger’s Toys, dedicated to donating toys to children in hospitals around the area.

Bryan Townsend, the Founder of Trigger’s Toys, with the help of Whiskey Cake’s Sean Conner and The Standard Pour’s Bryan McCullough, have rallied local bartenders and mixologists to put on the ultimate pop-up bar where teams of five bartenders will come in every hour to craft specialty cocktails for $10 each. 100% of all proceeds will go to Trigger’s Toys and those in need. Participating bartenders include: Kyle Hilla (Bolsa), Ivan Rimach (Mexican Sugar), Alex Fletcher (Victor Tangos), and many more.    Continue reading
