First Look: Hopdoddy Burger Bar

by Steven Doyle

Hopdoddy Burger Bar opens its doors Wednesday, October 3, 2012 and is the latest transplant from Austin, Texas. Hopdoddy serves all natural beef ground fresh daily in its own grind room and cuts Kennebec spuds for their fries on premises.

Look for some really nice local beers from Dallas including selections from Deep Ellum Brewing Company, Peticolas, and around the state featuring brews from 512, St Arnold, Live Oak and Austin Beerworks.

The selection of burgers range from the mild such as the Magic Shroom which is stuffed with field mushrooms and local goat cheese, to the wild like the Janis Joplin which is a hemp seed veggie patty laden with avocado, sprouts and Tillamook cheddar.

Crave favorites were the Greek (Lamb, Feta Cheese, Arugula, Pickled Red Onions, Tomato, Cucumber and Tzatziki Sauce) and the Ahi Tuna burger (Sushi-Grade Tuna, Sprouts, Teriyaki, Honey Wasabi, Nori Chips, Pickled Ginger and Mayo).

There is a burger named after an Austin landmark, the Continental Club, which is a turkey burger.

The hand-spun shakes are a true treat with flavors like the Caramel & Sea Salt, Nutella and Chocolate Pretzels.

Buns are baked twice daily with choices of challah style, seeded wheat or non-gluten, baked with Austin’s Bona Dea Baking Company gluten-free flour.

Should you be curious about the name Hopdoddy,  it was explained that a doddy is a cow native to Aberdeen, Scotland. And hop, well, that’s all about the beer. If the new Dallas restaurant is anything like the  Austin Congress Avenue location, there will be lines out the door.
