Kin Kin Urban Thai is now open in Fort Worth’s West 7th District and we checked out Chef Eddy Thretipthuangsin’s latest culinary vision. What we found was fresh, innovative and an extremely welcomed take on the chef’s modern Thai cookery. The flavor profile of Kin Kin is vibrant and modern, just like visiting Thailand today. “Bangkok is one of the most vibrant culinary cities,” explains Eddy. “I wanted to bring the food, and even its pop culture influences back to diners across North Texas.”
For Chef Eddy, creation of Kin Kin Urban Thai is a way to pay homage to the contribution his mother and his family have made in his development as a chef. “This restaurant reflects the passion my mother has instilled within me for Thai food. It is because of her sacrifices and her training that I have both the cultural awareness and classical training to share our taste of Thailand with North Texas. ” Continue reading
Dallas-area fans of noted Thai Chef Eddy Thretipthuangsin are about to get the news they’ve been waiting for these past 18 months. The James Beard-recognized chef who opened his successful American-themed Bite City Grill in Fort Worth’s Montgomery Plaza early last year, has taken Thai cuisine back off the back burner. “Chef Eddy” who recently announced the up-coming February opening of his new place, Kin Kin Urban Thai in Fort Worth’s West 7th district, plans to open two more Kin Kin locations in Dallas this spring.
Kin Kin Urban Thai at 3211 Oak Lawn is slated to open in March/April 2015. A second Dallas outpost, located at Preston Forest, will open in summer 2015. Continue reading

Wednesday, November 5, Malai Kitchen will host a special “Thai Me Up” dinner as part of North Texas Beer Week. The evening will highlight Malai’s portfolio of house-brewed, Asian-style beers inspired by owners Braden and Yasmin Wages’ travels through Southeast Asia. Chef Paul Singhapong of CrushCraft Thai will join Wages to create a six-course dinner with beer pairings. Have you eaten at Pakpao, the edgy Thai restaurant in Dallas Design District? If so, forget everything you know. Go back, and if you haven’t been, go. They have a new menu and a new chef in an unusual arrangement.
They have just entered an agreement with the man who may be the most famous Thai chef in the country, Jet Tila. He, of Cutthroat Kitchen, Iron Chef (he narrowly lost to Masaharu Morimoto), No Reservations, half a dozen other shows on the likes of Food Network, plus a restaurant empire that stretches across the country, is now an equity partner in Pakpao with Richard and Tiffany Ellman and their Apheleia Restaurant Group (Pakpao, Oak, and Belly and Trumpet). The intriguing thing, for me, is that he said in 2014 that “I am interested in creating concepts, not just one-offs”. Does that mean that Pakpao, to become a two-off with the opening of an offshoot in Plano this summer, is destined to become a national chain? The P.F. Chang’s (the 49th largest restaurant chain in the U.S. by sales, $930M, in 2011) of Thai food? Only time will tell. Continue reading
