Spruce Up Your Interior and Wardrobe In 2013

Metallic Fashionby Erica Guajardo

With Easter and Passover here this week, spring time has surely arrived! One thing that comes with these holidays is spring cleaning and sprucing up. For many this means time to throw away the old and bring in the new, but what items will state that your a trend setting individual?

“Art” has many forms in the design world, although we generally think of art as being fine, it can take on other forms, such as fashion and interiors. This years color of the year is Emerald Green, making statements that are eye catching and trend setting. Many individuals are seen this year with accessories, colored jeans, and nail polish in this color, but “What are other statements in the design world that are emerging?”  Continue reading

Experience Art Through Internship

artthinkby Erica Guajardo

Education is a common thing that parents encourage in their children. Whether you are talking about grades, attendance, or college, this subject is an important aspect in a child’s future. Although it may be a hard process for some children to engage with, special education programs may be the twist to what gets your child to interact in school activities. Dallas Contemporary Museum is a non-profit organization which is striving to get the public more involved with ART. By hosting a number of programs, geared towards education, this museum is creating attention grabbing responses by students. Artist Meet And Greet: Kelly Jacobi And Michael McPheeters

Kelli-Jacobi-1by Erica Guajardo

Motivation tends to come from an experience that you are effected by. Not all experiences are great, but sometimes the results are life changing. I recently had the pleasure of meeting two artists that are making movements in the Dallas Metroplex. Kelly Jacobi and Michael McPheeters, these two artists are changing who gets involved with the local emerging art movement.

Kelly Jacobi is an artist who has been practicing art her whole life. With a background in graphic design, illustration, photography, and painting, there is no project that this young artist cannot tackle. About six months ago I walked into my local coffee shop to come across these eerie grim dark pieces hanging from the wall. These are things that an average person would not paint. One thing as an artist you learn is that creating comes from experience; there is always a tale to tell, you just need to learn how to illustrate it. Intrigued by these dark art pieces I contacted her to know more about the statement that she was trying to convey. Little did I know I would find a world of mystery, sorrow, and courage.

Manning the Stations

manningby Dr. Spin

After playing the role of sideman and producer for nearly a decade, Jellyfish keyboardist and songwriter Roger Joseph Manning released his solo debut in 2006. This album, The Land of Pure Imagination, showed up in the mailbox early in 2008, probably the result of a somewhat irresponsible Amazon indulgence. Of any of the releases by Jellyfish members after their breakup, it had the clearest relationship to the bittersweet, almost tragic nostalgia that that the band’s best work evoked. There were several songs that displayed his significant contribution to the Jellyfish formula, and these were real highlights for me back when I first got The Land of Pure Imagination. land yourself some pure at…

Tomas and Drennan Side by Side Friday, March 8

Ashton_eVite_030813by Erica Guajardo

When you own a gallery on Dragon Street, you don’t necessarily show your own artwork as a feature exhibition.  Generally the rule of thumb is to present artist in the space, so that you have a collection of works that differ but remain cohesive.  As two gallery owners on Dragon Street ponder this concept, they decided the best thing to do was to collaborate on an art show which feature them as artist.  The Cohn Drennan Contemporary’s owner Cathy Drennan and Mary Tomás owner of the Mary Tomás Gallery have collaborated together to create a show which features each owners works as painters.   Continue reading

Want to Stay Active in Your Art Community?

artistby Erica Guajardo

As an artist, one of the hardest things to do is get your artwork viewed by the public.  It seems that there is much anxiety associated with “Where and How to start?”  As a fellow artist myself, I found that it took someone inviting me to join a group of locals in order to  get established.  Although this seems like a simple idea, not all creative individuals know someone that is willing to show us the way.

Recently I was searching through the Facebook Group Page Dallas Art Openings, a group designed to announce art shows that are taking place around Dallas.   During this search I found an individual posting “…I’ve come to find myself wanting to join an art career…How could I start myself?”  This awakened a self-guided principle idea to help share with inspiring artists a way for them to get active and help grow their talents.  Below you will find three art groups, which are FREE to join and stay active in the arts.     Continue reading
