First Look at Bistro 31

Alberto Lombardi seems to collect restaurants like a grandmother collects snow globes and Hummel’s. Bistro 31, the latest addition into the fold of the family of restaurants, quickly found its way to the prized spot on the mantel.

The menu hearkens Mediterranean cuisine deftly produced by former Mansion sous Eric Brandt who said the dishes have a flair of French and Italian.   Continue reading

828 Opens With a Splash

Last evening we popped into 828, the pop-up speakeasy in Oak Cliff that benefit’s the Promise House, and found a whole host of DFW cocktail legends behind and in front of the bar.

The brainchild of Michael Martensen and Eddie “Lucky” Campbell who will soon open their own bar tentatively entitled Rock and Rye, are using the lounge as a launch pad for the bar and to raise funds for the charity.   Continue reading

Vegan Girl Gets an Exclusive Look at VSPOT Cafe

Anyone trafficking the strip of restaurants and bars on Henderson has noticed the increasing activity in the space next to The Pearl Cup. VSPOT Café is now clearly marked on the windows, but not much more about the much anticipated restaurant was known until now.

I sat down with the Chef Toria Villareal to get the real story on what VSPOT Café is all about. VSPOT Café has a projected opening date of October 17th. The menu will be all vegan, but the emphasis will be on health. Sadly, we know a lot of the vegan fare in Dallas is not all that healthy. VSPOT plans to change that and give us all the tasty yet healthy vegan eats we can handle.    Continue reading

First Look: Swig

Opening up in the old Park space  on Henderson, Swig bills itself as a Beer-garden and Speakeasy in combination with its bar the Gin Mill, located in the former Bar Celine spot in back. With much of the interior remaining the same Henderson Ave residents will feel right at home in the space now owned by the guys behind Capital Pub.

Swig boasts an impressive beer menu divided by country of origin as well as a very nice selection of Gins, Scotches, Whiskeys, and Bourbons in addition to its completely revamped menu.   Continue reading
