First Look: Townhouse Kitchen + Bar

by Steven Doyle

There are more than a few decent dining choices at the Dallas Galleria, including Second Floor and Oceanaire. Less than a month ago we welcomed the new Townhouse Kitchen + Bar to the landscape. The restaurant is a bit stark in its furnishings, but has a terrific patio and large bar that greets each guest as they enter.

The menu is pretty much across the board featuring most anything that might please, including steaks, seafood and tacos. Tacos? Well, ramped up tacos unlike you might have had at your local taqueria. Think Kimchi Duck or Shrimp Kung Pao.     Continue reading →

Toby Keith is this Country Western musician who likes to sing about bars and open them as well. He has a smattering of restaurants across the country including Vegas and Bricktown in OKC. And now he is announcing the opening of his Dallas bar and grill in the 32,000 square feet building that was formerly the AMC theater on Technology Blvd.

If you have front of the house or kitchen experience there is a job fair going on today from 1pm to 6pm at 10110 Technology Blvd. E Dallas, TX 75220.

The position’s they are looking to fill includes Whiskey Girls. I love this bar.

Meet Chef DAT of the Soon to Open Mason Bar

by Steven Doyle

In collaboration with Brandt Wood and chef David Anthony Temple will be opening the kitchen at the Mason Bar in just a few short weeks. You may remember Temple, often referred to as Chef DAT. He is the 28-year old chef who has been honing his skills by running a successful series of underground dinners in the Dallas area. Now the DAT has gone legit.

The Mason Bar rests comfortably in its digs at 2701 Gulliot in Dallas in the State Thomas section of Dallas that just borders Uptown. There we find the interesting building which was originally a church in the 1930’s and eventually a Freemason Lodge in 1951. For seven years it was the home for artist James Sasso and the artist has promised to send out some artwork to represent that period.    Continue reading →

by Steven Doyle

Conceived from memories of long ago, Sundown at Granada opens this week with an open house on Wednesday, January 4th starting at 4pm.

Named for Sundown, Manitoba, the small burg with a population of 100 located 20 miles north of the Canadian border. Sundown owner Mike Schoder first learned to chop wood, work in a garden and drive a car all before he was 10 years old on his grandmother’s farm located in Sundown.     Continue reading →

First Look: Oak

by Steven Doyle

All the beautiful pieces are in place. Oak has this pretty fantastic location on Oak Lawn in the Design District across from the Meddlesome Moth and was designed by Royce Ring and Alex Urrunaga of Plan B who did the recent Bolsa Mercado, the Candle Room, Whiskey Cake and Cedars Social. Add in the owners who are these amazing hospitality specialists, Tommy DeAlano and Richard Ellman. Then hire on chef Jason Maddy as your exec chef who was formerly at the Mansion. You would have a huge pot of success just waiting to happen. This is what the restaurant Oak is all about.

We had an opportunity to stop in Oak for a quick preview this past weekend and chatted with DeAlano, who enjoys nothing more than to speak about the new restaurant.   Continue reading →

We sat down with Ehlert to find out more of his background and the plans he has for the very tiny Chesterfield kitchen.

Take a leap for the full Q&A and find out about his Top Chef connection, his crappy apartment in Long Island and a detailed look at the new menu he has cooking up at Chesterfield.     Continue reading →
