Vegan Girl: Oui Oui Parigi

by Melissa Brenner

As the plus 100 degree weather continues in our fair state, so does my search for food suitable for the insane heat wave that satisfies my palette.

Even though my scheduled dinner companion stood me up (yeah, you know who you are), I was not left wanting for good company and conversation. One of the greatest things about Parigi is the staff. I was pleased to dine with Diane at the bar while being entertained by Dino polishing the espresso machine in the most sinful manner. (Special thanks to both of you for being so amazing). Dino’s other talent is making sinfully delicious cocktails, which is just what a girl needs to cool off on a hot summer night.  Continue reading

RedFork Closed Until Tomorrow Due to Gas Leak

by Steven Doyle  photo by Robert Bostick

Just spoke with chef Jeff Harris at RedFork and found out the kitchen at his new restaurant has been closed due to a gas-gaffe.  While installing a new pizza oven they smelled gas and had to halt the installation.  After working the problem for two days now, they determined it was the equipment.

“We will have the oven problem worked out by next week but will be open for business tomorrow (Thursday) at 4:00. We went ahead and gave everyone today off,” said Harris just moments ago.

CravedDFW looks forward to sipping the cold, cold cocktails on the patio once again tomorrow evening.  When you go we suggest that you ask for the $8.00 foie supplement  or the roasted mushrooms for the best deal in Dallas.

The city is already in love with his burger.

Bake Sale to Benefit Berry Children

by Crave Staff

On July 2nd when most families were making plans for the holiday, tragedy struck 3 innocent children from Houston, Texas.  Nine-year-old Peter, eight-year-old Aaron and six-year-old Willa lost their parents when a SUV collided head-on with their van near Fort Stockton. The family was returning home from a road trip.

Across the country groups have reached out to provide for the children through a series of fundraisers and bake sales.  Continue reading

Dive Coastal Celebrates One Year Anniversary With Crave Q&A

by Steven Doyle

We sat down with Francesca Nor, owner of Dive Coastal Cuisine located in University Park’s Snider Plaza as she celebrated her first year anniversary.  We wanted to know what made the fresh fish restaurant that is located in the former Dunkin Donut spot so amazingly successful — besides being one of the only restaurants who will deliver to the University Park pool.

We were quick to learn that she earned her chops in the kitchen and is classically trained. Nor is well traveled and grew up next door to Nick Badovinus.  She has this really cool California, almost hipster vibe, but focused and intense.  She knows her way around a kitchen, but doesn’t want to be known as a chef.  Nor’s schtick is more of a band leader that orchestrates her business with precision quality.

So we decided to ask Franchesca Nor a few questions about Dive to commemorate her first very successful year in business at Dive Coastal Cusine.  Continue reading

Floating the River After 30

Your guide to a post-college river party in New Braunfels

by Danielle Leahy

Ahh, the college river/road trip. I remember it fondly: great friends, laughing for days, the sun on your back and the river beneath you, drinking too much and sleeping to little. Crowded, smelly cars and waking up on cheap motel floors stuffed 6 to a room made for 2… Err… HOLD UP. Actually, there was a lot of room for improvement in those early adult, cash strapped, college days. Maybe there are some lessons to be learned and improvements to be made to our annual Summer Road Trip now that the majority of us have rounded the corner on 30?

Yea, I thought so too.  Continue reading

Wonder Years: New work by the SourGrapes

by Crave Staff

The Sourgrapes13 are a well respected graffiti art collective based here in Dallas. They learned their art form on the streets, in the dark, with the adrenaline of being caught for vandalism. It started as lines on pages, then wall murals with full perspective and finally brought to the canvas in a more controlled fine art environment. What comes from this evolution are well executed works of art that continue to tell the stories of their lives and influences. Join RISING Gallery in celebrating this art form at WONDER YEARS.

Friday, July 29 · 7:00pm – 10:00pm
