Holiday Vignettes: Janice Provost

Janice Provost grew up in the Houston area on the Neal’s Family Farm and started out in the restaurant business as a caterer before finally going through the El Centro hospitality program in Dallas. She was eventually hired as a chef at Parigi, and ended up buying the business.

Janice runs the kitchen daily and is partly responsible for starting Café Momentum, which currently is a series of pop-up restaurants to assist at-risk young men. Café Momentum is slated to be an actual brick and mortar restaurant in the coming year and will provide on-the-job training for these kids.       Continue reading

Parigi Celebrates 30th Anniversary Oct 5th And You Are Invited To The Party

Parigi, the chic little Oak Lawn bistro with heart of Paris and the soul of New York, is celebrating 30 years of charming Dallas. With an effervescent spirit and relaxed style it will be forever young as it continues to charm guests with a cosmopolitan menu.

Located in the trendy and historic Oak Lawn neighborhood, Parigi bistro opened in 1984 by founder Andree Falls and continues to exude the essence of continental bistros and the heart of Big D hospitality. “Whatever It Takes” is the staff motto emblazoned on the tee shirts of managers and servers alike.

Current executive chef-owner, Janice Provost has big plans for Parigi’s 30th anniversary year, which kicks off Sunday, Oct. 5, at Parigi with a birthday fete called “A Celebration of Friends of Parigi.” Ticket prices are $84 in homage to Parigi’s founding in 1984.  Continue reading

Ladies of Cattle Baron’s Ball Hold Girl Power Announcement Party

The Cattle Baron’s Ball is a high point of the Dallas charity social season, raising over $3.5m last year for the American Cancer Society. This year’s event will have a twist. At the live auction, bidders will be able to bid not only for a meal cooked in their home by gentlemen chefs, but now one cooked by lady chefs. This week, the ladies of Cattle Baron’s ball had what they billed as their Girl Power Group announcement party at Parigi in Dallas and CraveDFW was there.  Continue reading

This Sunday on craveRADIO we will feature Jim White, founder of Savor Dallas the week-long food and wine festival in Dallas. Jim White is also the inspiration behind craveRADIO as he produced his own program, Restaurant Show on KRLD.

On the program White will discuss the state of restaurants in Dallas both past and present. He also has some special guests of his very own including Janice Provost from Parigi and the legendary Dallas Morning News restaurant critic, author and president of the Greater Dallas Restaurant Association, Dotty Griffith. As if these weren’t enough, we will also have a few surprise call-in’s from Napa Valley.

Paradise at Parigi

Parigi restaurant on Oak Lawn was packed to the gills on Sunday night for a fundraiser for the Promise of Peace Community Garden. The garden, to be built in Little Forest Hills, helps implement the organization’s mission statement. Namely, “seeking simple solutions for increasing high school completion rates and healthy life styles as a result of positive community engagement. POP strives to connect the groups of neighborhoods in East Dallas through horticultural, environmental, and nutritional educational experiences”.   Continue reading

Parigi Dinner Will Help Fund Promise Of Peace Garden

Chefs Graham Dodds, Janice Provost, Chad Houser and Rolo Cantu have generously agreed to create a special dinner this Sunday, May 26, 2013 at Parigi in Dallas to benefit the Promise of Peace Garden in East Dallas.  The evening kicks off at 6pm with music provided by Mack Price who will perform a medley of Beatle’s songs, followed by the dinner at 7pm. The dinner will raise funds to build a new garden on Old Gate Lane across from The United Methodist Church in Little Forest Hills. The church is offering Promise of Peace an opportunity to utilize the space and engage the community by leasing the property that will include offices, classrooms, and an industrial kitchen for a dollar a year.
