Get Ready To Celebrate Texas Chicken Fried Steak Day

The tastiest holiday of the year is upon us – Texas Chicken Fried Steak Day. The official Texas holiday celebrates the soul food of the Lone Star state with restaurants across the state participating by offering chicken fried steak specials, entertainment and a whole lot of chicken fried every year on October 26.

In 2011, Texas Chicken Fried Steak Day Founder and bigInk PR CEO Jeffrey Yarbrough worked to have October 26 officially recognized as Texas Chicken Fried Steak Day. On May 30, 2011, State Representative Ralph Sheffield, Speaker of the House Joe Straus and Chief Clerk Robert Haney signed the resolution proclaiming the holiday. Continue reading →

Social House Hits the Mark

Finding a really well crafted cocktail in Addison can be a bit precarious at best. There are a few hidden labyrinths for drinks including either of the Richard Chamberlain restaurants on Belt Line and now, as it would seem, Social House.

Checking in to check out Social House just a few months after opening we found a pretty damned good chicken fried steak. So good we included it on our list of top favorites in the city. But a more recent visit we enjoyed much more. Continue reading →

Mister Ed Says “Eat Me”

Through out the world horses are a general source of meat. In Parma you may find pesto di cavallo, or a horse meat tartare, on the menu. In Austria you may find a type of bologna called Leberkäse, which sometimes can be made with horse, sold at hot dog stands. In China you may find a Donkey Burger on the menu, and in Japan it is common to see raw horse meat called basash which is thinly sliced and eaten raw.

In English speaking countries such as the United States, UK, Canada and Australia eating horse is taboo, but you just might start seeing Trigger or Mister Ed show up on your dinner table soon as it is now legal to slaughter horses for a source of food in the United States. Continue reading →

Happiness is a Warm CFS at Cowtown Diner

Happiness is contagious. All week and continuing through until Monday, January 16, 2012, Cowtown Diner in Fort Worth’s Sundance Square is asking diners to spread the love and share something good that has happened. More happiness follows, as 10 percent of the diner’s check also goes to work for others as a donation to Tarrant Area Food Bank.

Guests simply write down anything good or positive in their lives – whatever they are grateful for – and the message is posted on a wall in Cowtown Diner for everyone to share the warm fuzzies. Continue reading →

Today is a day of celebration and joy as we mark the very first official Texas Chicken Fried Steak Day. The day’s founder, Jeffrey Yarbrough, said today on this auspicious occasion, “I am honored to have worked closely with restaurateurs Tom Perini and Ralph Sheffield to elevate this savory southern dish that reflects our state history. Besides my wife and kids as the loves of my life, creating the official Texas Chicken Fried Steak Day has been a dream come true and makes me so proud to be a Texan.”

We detailed the storied history of the special occasion yesterday and today we offer a few sizzling hot CFS specials, plus our personal recommendations for a really fine version in the DFW area. It’s that magical time of year when children make their wish lists, special outfits are purchased in anticipation, and grown men dream of country gravy. Yes, it’s beginning to look a lot like Texas Chicken Fried Steak Day, the one day a year when being naughty is oh-so-nice.

If you’ve never heard of Texas Chicken Fried Steak Day, don’t worry. This is the first official year of the esteemed official recognition. Spearheaded by Jeffrey Yarbrough, CEO of bigInk PR and Marketing, the hope of putting one of the Lone Star State’s most iconic meals on a pedestal became reality when State Representative Ralph Sheffield, Speaker of the House Joe Straus, and Chief Clerk Robert Haney signed the resolution on May 30, 2011.
