Chef Grady Spears announced he was taking reservations at  restaurant Line Camp Steakhouse located 2 miles south of Granbury in Tolar, Texas. The website says he took inspiration from the steak competition in Hico, Texas (often featured on Food Network) and was serving real Texas food, chuck wagon cooking, and southern-style comfort.

Check out one of Grady’s cooking classes that begins mid-November. Hit up the site for all the details. Grady is about as Walt Garrison as a chef can get.

Last Week For Speakeasy 828

by Steven Doyle

As many are aware, we have personally enjoyed the pop-up speakeasy 828 that so many are wagging on about today, and for a few good reasons. First there is this dynamic charitable aspect that allows us to cocktail in comfort knowing each buck brings happiness to others.  To date, the pop-up has raised thousands for Promise House. Then there is the long wagon train of great bar peeps pouring insanely great drinks, each one attempting to top the other in a friendly fanfare of boozy bliss.

This week 828 is getting a facelift from Again and Again  while owner Leslie Pritchard is busy loading a slew of cool furnishings into the lounge. Guaranteed that will be amazing. If you spot something you like, it is all for sale with a percentage going to the charity.   Continue reading →

We Are Celebrating Chicken Fried Steak Day!

Raven’s Grille at Texas Star

by Steven Doyle

Today is a day of celebration and joy as we mark the very first official Texas Chicken Fried Steak Day. The day’s founder, Jeffrey Yarbrough, said today on this auspicious occasion, “I am honored to have worked closely with restaurateurs Tom Perini and Ralph Sheffield to elevate this savory southern dish that reflects our state history. Besides my wife and kids as the loves of my life, creating the official Texas Chicken Fried Steak Day has been a dream come true and makes me so proud to be a Texan.”

We detailed the storied history of the special occasion yesterday and today we offer a few sizzling hot CFS specials, plus our personal recommendations for a really fine version in the DFW area. With that, go out and enjoy chicken fried steak today and celebrate with us. Please share your favorites not listed.       Continue reading →

This week’s burger quest took us to east Dallas to visit Goodfriend Beer Garden & Burger House which is next door to Good 2 Go Taco on Peavy Road. Goodfriend is a neighborhood bar that features a great line up of burgers, sandwiches, hot dogs and appetizers to pair with drinks from their full service bar. by Steven Lindsey      photo by Steven Doyle

It’s that magical time of year when children make their wish lists, special outfits are purchased in anticipation, and grown men dream of country gravy. Yes, it’s beginning to look a lot like Texas Chicken Fried Steak Day, the one day a year when being naughty is oh-so-nice.

If you’ve never heard of Texas Chicken Fried Steak Day, don’t worry. This is the first official year of the esteemed official recognition. Spearheaded by Jeffrey Yarbrough, CEO of bigInk PR and Marketing, the hope of putting one of the Lone Star State’s most iconic meals on a pedestal became reality when State Representative Ralph Sheffield, Speaker of the House Joe Straus, and Chief Clerk Robert Haney signed the resolution on May 30, 2011.    Continue reading →
