Sakurai’s “Ten” Ramen Shop Opening Delayed Until January 2015
Teiichi Sakurai, owner of the illustrious Tei An in One Arts Plaza, has planned to open his tiny ramen shop in the new Sylvan|Thirty project in West Dallas for some time now. The 750 square foot restaurant will seat 13 guests, and will be designed by Hatsumi Kuzuu, the same talent behind such spots as FT33 in Dallas.
The restaurant, which will be called Ten, was on the fast track to already be open for business but was delayed due to a fire which gutted the new building back in March of this year. We now catch word that the delay will have diners waiting for Sakurai’s promised $10 bowl of ramen until January of 2015. Continue reading

Happy Cheeseburger Day
by Steven Doyle
Huzzah for National Cheeseburger Day. For the occasion I went through our Rolodex of recent burger photos and spotted the newest version on the block. Please allow me to introduce you to chef Cody Sharp’s double patty of cheesy goodness. The Standard Pour burger has American cheese, onion, house pickle, aioli,
bacon marmalade on a Village Baking Company challah roll.
Throw in a side of house made extra crispy fries and you have a burger well worth celebrating this national food holiday.

Wine of The Week: Lafite’s Malbec-Cabernet Sauvignon for $14
For reasons that nobody explained to me, it has been a week of tasting outstanding Malbecs. All of these came from Argentina, and some ranged over $100 for a bottle. However, for our Wine of the Week we generally look for something less than $20 and with Argentine Malbec the field is target rich.
Our recommendation this week is 2011 Amancaya Gran Reserva Malbec-Cabernet Sauvignon from the Mendoza region of Argentina. It is actually a 70% Malbec-30% Cabernet Sauvignon blend from a winery called Bodegas Caro, which is a joint venture between the branch of the Rothschild family that owns Château Lafite in France’s Bordeaux region and pioneering Argentine winemaker Nicolas Catena. Primo Brothers Pizza Celebrates Oktoberfest and is Giving Pizza Tossing Lessons
Primo Brothers Pizza owner Luan Vraniqi has a history with pizza. In the late ‘60s his father and two uncles, who originated from Albania, worked for several pizza parlors, in nearly every capacity, before they opened their own place in the mid ‘70s. Here they became known for their New York style pizza and sub sandwiches. As a boy, this is where Luan, a Brooklyn native, began to consume the pizza business and when early notions of his own restaurant burgeoned.
In the 80’s the same family brought their own special version of the New York-style pizza to Dallas and soon gained a huge following with Brother’s Pizza. Dough made fresh daily with fresh ingredients drove the restaurant to stand out. Other Italian favorites including subs, pasta and salads were also popular. Continue reading
